The Opportunity
The Principal, Industry Engagement serves as a Velera champion of both federal and state credit unions, industry-related events and individual credit union engagements. The position requires experience working within the credit union industry and the ability to deliver industry- and payments-related information that will be beneficial for Velera, its clients and, when appropriate, external engagements. The incumbent should be well versed in key topics pertaining to the industry and be prepared to speak/present on such initiatives. The incumbent will maintain a consistent schedule of speaking engagements covering a broad range of topics affecting the industry. This individual will serve as a Velera delegate to represent Velera and its credit unions’ interests across industry relationships and activities.
A Day in the Life
Accurately and professionally represent Velera, its vision and mission in front of Industry executives, committees, conferences and credit unions.
Develop strong relationships with key industry organizations (ACU, NCUF, Filene, AACUL, World Council of Credit Unions, etc.) and their leadership teams as appropriate to ensure Velera and its client credit unions’ thoughts and interests are properly represented.
In conjunction with the Legal team, represent Velera’s interests on credit union state and federal advocacy committees and inititiaves, educate Velera leadership and staff and Velera credit unions, implementing grassroots action as necessary, in partnership with the Velera Communications team.
Manage National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF) and all State Credit Union Foundation (SCUF) Network relationships, serving as escalation point of contact and providing thought leadership, including but not limited to donor-advised funds, financial wellness, development issues and disaster aid.
Manage credit union system partner and all trade association relationships.
Manage Velera’s sponsorship/philanthropic spend, including Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and Junior Achievement, as well as all credit union requests, to maximize Velera brand enhancement and deliver return value to the company. Identify and lead opportunities that expand our network through establishing relationships to position Velera as engaged industry partner.
Focus on maximizing Velera’s exposure and access to key organizations across the industry.
Participate at various industry conferences for networking amongst industry peers, while working collaboratively with Velera Growth, Marketing/Communications and Operational team members.
Serve on industry boards, advisory boards and committees, as necessary and appropriate.
Identify and secure advisory board/committee seats for other Velera leaders to maintain Velera representation with key industry groups.
Identify strategic opportunities for Velera within the credit union industry, participating in strategic planning and taking a broad perspective to deliver relevant payments and ecommerce industry expertise.
Maintain current knowledge of payment industry, contact center and fraud trends, innovation, competition, and Velera products and solutions; maintain current knowledge of card, ecommerce, payments and credit union industry related to Visa, Mastercard, Fiserv, FIS, Velera and competitors.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum 10 years related industry experience, with focus on relationship development required.
Minimum 7 years required in a senior role
Ability to build and maintain relationships with senior level executives within the industry
Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats and give presentations utilizing various audiovisual support aids
Ability to manage multiple projects, work in fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment when making decisions that have a monetary impact on Velera
Must interact positively and professionally at all levels of management and staff within Velera, its clients and the industry
Proficiency in word processing, presentation and spreadsheet computer software applications
Knowledge of payments, ecommerce, credit and debit card industry preferred
Ability to travel as needed
Education:
Bachelor’s degree or equivilant experience required.
Master’s degree preferred.
