Having successfully completed thousands of projects since our founding in 1985, many of the world’s leading brands, technology companies, and system integrators rely on Definian to solve their most complex data challenges.

Definian helps organizations unleash the full potential of their data by giving them the clarity, confidence, and control needed to make better decisions. Our solutions span data strategy, data engineering, migration, governance, analytics, and AI – and we build proprietary tools that accelerate delivery.

Since 1985, we've successfully delivered thousands of projects for many of the world's leading brands, technology partners, and system integrators – building a reputation for technical excellence and client partnership. As we continue to grow, we're investing in the infrastructure and IT operations capabilities that enable our teams to do their best work.

The Opportunity

Definian is hiring an Infrastructure Manager to lead our IT Operations function. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who loves both deep technical work and mentoring people. You'll spend 70-80% of your time doing real infrastructure, security, and automation work – writing scripts, managing cloud resources, solving complex technical problems – and 20-30% managing and mentoring a small team of IT professionals.

We're not looking for someone who wants to manage from a distance. We need someone who can dig into problems, figure things out independently, and build the automation that makes a small team highly effective. You'll own internal IT operations – everything from endpoint management and security to cloud infrastructure and internal tooling – while developing your team members and helping them grow.

What You'll be Doing (may include but are not limited to):

  • Lead and mentor a small IT team across US and India, providing technical guidance and career development support
  • Write and maintain automation scripts (Python, Bash, PowerShell) to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual work
  • Manage cloud infrastructure (AWS) including provisioning, cost optimization, and security hardening
  • Own endpoint management, security tools, and access control across the organization
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure issues – often independently researching and implementing solutions
  • Evaluate and implement new tools and technologies to modernize IT operations
  • Develop and maintain IT documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures
  • Manage vendor relationships and contracts for IT services and tools
  • Ensure compliance with security policies and support audit requirements
  • Collaborate with software development teams on infrastructure and tooling needs

What you'll bring to the Team:

  • 10+ years of hands-on infrastructure/systems experience
  • 5+ years of experience managing technical teams
  • Strong scripting skills – Python, Bash, or PowerShell (must be able to write production-quality automation)
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred)
  • Experience with endpoint management and security tools
  • Track record of developing and mentoring team members
  • Demonstrated ability to figure things out independently – research, experiment, deliver
  • Experience managing remote/distributed team members
  • Automation-first mindset – prefers to automate rather than add headcount
  • Strong communication skills – can explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation) is a plus
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 administration is a plus
  • Relevant certifications (AWS, Azure, security) are a plus

Definian Perks & Benefits:

  • Highly competitive compensation with annual bonus incentive
  • 401K plan with company match
  • Company paid individual health, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance coverage
  • Four weeks of paid time off
  • Ten company paid holidays
  • Employee referral bonuses

Why Join Definian?

  • Shape IT operations at a growing, AI-forward consultancy – not just maintain someone else's decisions
  • Stay hands-on technically while also leading and developing a team
  • Work with modern tools and have real influence over technology choices
  • Stable, profitable company with 40 years of history and continued growth
  • Culture recognized by Built In's Best Places to Work, Crain's Chicago Business, and the Best & Brightest Companies to Work For

Definian has been named one of Built In's 2024 Best Places to Work across four categories: Chicago's Best Midsize Places to Work, Chicago's Best Places to Work, US Best Midsize Places to Work, and US Best Places to Work. Additionally, we have been recognized as one of the Best and Brightest Companies to Work For® in Chicago, as one of Crain’s Top 100 Best Places to Work in Chicago, and proudly made the 2021 Inc. 5000 list of America’s Fastest-Growing Private Companies. While we are relentlessly client-focused, we are proud to have our culture and company recognized by others.
