Job Description:
Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.
When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do - but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here - we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.
As an Intelligent Automation COE Lead within Caterpillar's Intelligent Automation and Business Intelligence Center of Excellence (COE), you will guide the enterprise's growth in Business Process Automation (BPA) and Process Discovery and Mining. Instead of building isolated automations, you will lead the strategy and enablement that help business units identify the right processes to automate, design durable end-to-end workflows in Bizagi or similar BPA platforms, and quantify business value through data-driven process discovery and mining.
A central part of this role is recognizing where Generative AI agents are the right complement to traditional automation. You will pair deterministic workflow and task automation with agentic AI to address unstructured or judgment-based work that conventional automation cannot handle on its own. You will provide hands-on technical leadership, build reusable patterns and accelerators, and partner with platform, architecture, security, and business teams to keep the automation ecosystem scalable and well-governed.
This role blends process design, BPA platform stewardship, process mining analytics, GenAI-aware opportunity identification, and enterprise enablement. Primary focus is on Bizagi and on process discovery and mining tools such as Automation Anywhere Process Discovery and Power Automate Process Mining. The role also coordinates with the team's use of Automation Anywhere and the Microsoft Power Platform to deliver complete end-to-end automation solutions.

What You Will Do:
Advise & Enable (the core of the role)
- Lead enterprise adoption and maturity of Business Process Automation (Bizagi or similar BPMN and low-code workflow platforms), Process Discovery, and Process Mining across Caterpillar.
- Guide business units in identifying and prioritizing automation opportunities using data-driven process discovery and mining techniques instead of anecdotal intake.
- Identify where Generative AI agents are the right complement to traditional automation - matching each opportunity to the best fit across deterministic workflow (BPA), task automation (RPA), agentic AI, or a combination of these approaches.
- Develop a point of view on the role of GenAI agents in the enterprise automation portfolio - covering reasoning, decision support, document understanding, knowledge retrieval, and human-in-the-loop orchestration - and coach business units on responsible adoption.
Build & Set Standards (hands-on)
- Provide deep SME guidance on Bizagi process design, BPMN modeling, form and UI design, business rules, integrations, and deployment patterns; partner with vendors and platform teams to evolve the BPA roadmap.
- Lead the use of Automation Anywhere Process Discovery, Power Automate Process Mining to capture, analyze, and visualize as-is processes, surface variants and bottlenecks, and quantify automation ROI - using the resulting signals to flag where GenAI agents can address unstructured or judgment-based steps that conventional automation cannot.
- Develop and maintain reusable assets: process discovery playbooks, mining templates, BPMN reference patterns, integration patterns, governance documentation, and intake and qualification frameworks that scale across the enterprise.
- Support teams in designing end-to-end automated solutions that combine BPA workflow orchestration, downstream automation in Automation Anywhere (RPA) and the Microsoft Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps), and GenAI agents where they add measurable value.
- Establish enterprise standards for process documentation, naming conventions, lifecycle management, environment promotion, and operational support across BPA and process mining tools.
- Create monitoring approaches, KPIs, and operational practices that improve process performance, automation health, and realized business value across the enterprise.
Partner & Align
- Partner with central infrastructure, platform engineering, security, and cybersecurity teams to keep Bizagi, process mining platforms, Automation Anywhere, and the Power Platform secure, scalable, and well-governed.
- Collaborate with BI, data engineering, architecture, and business process owners to align the automation strategy with Caterpillar's overall digital, data, and operational excellence roadmap.
- Support incident and problem management for the BPA and process mining estate, and communicate findings to business and technical stakeholders.
What You Have:
- Value Realization (Business Process Automation & Process Mining Focus): Demonstrated ability to define, track, and deliver measurable business value through BPA and process mining initiatives. Skilled in aligning automation opportunities to business cases, establishing KPIs, and using process mining signals and dashboards to monitor adoption, process performance, automation health, and ROI.
- Communicating Complex Concepts (Process Design & Automation Solutions): Strong ability to elicit and understand business requirements and translate stakeholder needs into effective automation solutions. Skilled in articulating the trade-offs between deterministic workflow (BPA), task automation (RPA), and agentic AI - and clearly communicating why a specific approach best fits business goals, process complexity, and user experience. Adept at bridging business and technical teams by simplifying complex automation and AI concepts into actionable recommendations.
- Business Process Automation & Workflow Platforms (Bizagi Focus): Hands-on expertise designing and delivering BPA solutions in Bizagi (or a comparable BPMN and low-code platform such as Appian, Pega, or Camunda), including BPMN 2.0 modeling, forms, business rules, integrations, and deployment patterns. Grounded in business process design fundamentals such as value stream mapping, lean and six sigma principles, and operational KPIs.
- Process Discovery, Mining & GenAI-Aware Opportunity Identification: Practical experience with process discovery and mining tools (Automation Anywhere Process Discovery, Power Automate Process Mining, or Celonis) and proven ability to translate mining insights into actionable automation roadmaps. - Working knowledge of Automation Anywhere (RPA) and the Microsoft Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps), and how they complement BPA in end-to-end automation architectures.
- Practical understanding of Generative AI and AI agents in an enterprise context - document understanding, summarization, intelligent triage, knowledge retrieval, and human-in-the-loop decision support - with the judgment to identify which opportunities fit deterministic automation, AI agents, or a hybrid approach.
- Solid understanding of business process design concepts, including BPMN 2.0, value stream mapping, lean and six sigma principles, and operational KPIs.
- Experience developing or supporting reusable automation assets such as process templates, mining models, integration patterns, or governance artifacts.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills across distributed systems, workflow platforms, and integration layers.
- Experience scripting or automating tasks using tools such as Python, PowerShell, or SQL, including basic data preparation for process mining event logs.
