Job Description SummaryAs a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer for the Reactor Internal Design Hardware Team, you will design Reactor Modification Hardware to support the ongoing operation and performance of the existing BWR Nuclear Fleet. The hardware is subjected to stringent nuclear, quality, and regulatory standards and could be the difference between a power plant continuing operation or permanently shutting down. These components will function to replace existing plant hardware to either prevent failure or enhance performance to keep the BWR Fleet operating safely and competitively for years to come.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Design Reactor Modifications based on design input, product and customer requirements, industry codes and standards, and operating environment within defined schedule and cost limits

  • Prepare 3D models, drawings, perform analysis and create specifications to support hardware development

  • Collaborate with the Tooling Team, Analysis Teams, Field Deployment Teams, and Services Business to deliver designs that meet our standards for Nuclear Quality and Safety

  • Perform design reviews to present your design to engineering peers and leadership and obtain feedback

  • Provide technical support throughout the procurement and fabrication process

  • Document the final design to ensure it meets all application and design requirements

  • Engage in emergent issue support of customers during Outage Season to help solve challenging problems with technical guidance and fast-paced design, build, test response

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university or college

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in mechanical design and drafting practices (2D drawings, 3D modeling) in a commercial setting

Eligibility Requirements:

  • The preferred work location for this role is at the GVH Headquarters Wilmington, NC but qualified (US based) remote candidates will be considered

  • This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to U.S. export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of U.S. person status prior to employment

Desired Characteristics:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude, desire to innovate and solve problems with mechanical design

  • Finite Element Analysis experience is preferred

  • Nuclear industry experience, understanding of nuclear reactor components is highly desirable

  • Communicate progress, ideas, plans, and output effectively

  • Experience with designing with nuclear quality materials

  • Knowledge of ASME Pressure Vessel code

  • Knowledge of Geometric Design & Tolerancing

The base pay range for this position is $86,000-122,000. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for bonuses, such as a performance bonus/variable incentive compensation/equity. This position is expected to close on 11/12/2025.

The company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120%, or 130% of salary in certain areas.
