Lead Software Engineer - Hybrid

Please Note: This position is hybrid; however, you must reside within driving distance of our offices in Coppell, TX to attend meetings and team collaboration.

ClubLabs is the digital acceleration team for Automobile Club of Southern California, also known as, AAA. We are the team responsible for building intuitive customer experiences across the organization’s insurance, membership, financial, emergency roadside, and travel services. We’re a team of engineers, designers, researchers and product managers within AAA delivering maximum value to our members and business for a smarter future.

As our Lead Software Engineer, you will help us develop, test, enhance, and debug various member-facing applications on our website and mobile platforms. We currently have teams working on chatbots, self-service portals, login pages, sales and payment functions, and many other things in between. Your work here has an immediate impact on the ease of use for our 17 million members.

What You’ll Do

  • Every day you will begin with a standup to review your progress on your story so far, discuss any roadblocks you’re facing and make a plan to continue the work.
  • Working in pairs, you will complete your story for the week. We do weekly iterations instead of sprints, and our stories are prioritized and pulled from a Kanban board. Using Visual Studio, JavaScript, Node.js, React, AWS, .net, or C#, you and your partner will fix a quick production issue, develop a new feature, or build something brand new.
  • As lead engineer, you’ll also spend time each day checking in with other team members, up to 4, to help them with any specific coding issues as needed. You’ll also be coaching and mentoring them more broadly so that everyone on the team reaches their full potential.

What You’ll Need

  • You must have experience leading software development teams, in a formal Lead Software Engineer role, or informally. You can give constructive feedback respectfully. You can describe your approach to coaching underperformers, average performers, and high performers.
  • To thrive in this role, you must have previous experience in full-cycle software engineering - developing a product or feature from conception through design and into production.
  • You must understand cloud computing, serverless architecture, and system design. You have experience with full-stack front-end and back-end development.
  • You work with integrity and enjoy collaboration and are comfortable in a hybrid work environment.
  • You have worked previously with an Agile team or understand these concepts. You expect to participate in daily standup meetings, you’ll complete your stories during our weekly iterations, and you’re ready to meet frequent deployment deadlines.
