Meet the Team: 

The Torc Technical Writing team serves all teams across Torc by writing and maintaining a variety of documentation that communicates complex information clearly, accurately, and concisely for the intended audience. The team works directly with document owners and subject matter experts (SMEs) to study the requirements and audience. 

What You'll Do: 

You will be responsible for managing, participating in, and leading the work of a team of technical writers. The team supports the design, development, preparation, and maintenance of technical content including processes, workflows, standards, operating models, user manuals, tutorials, policies, business schedules, technical documentation, etc. Other job-related duties will include:

  • Lead, develop, and grow a team of high-performing technical writers.
  • Being a key decision maker on documentation templates, documentation management, standardization, organization, security processes, and archiving to ensure compliance with corporate quality standards.
  • Ensuring documentation work is tracked to meet milestone dates and internal or external deliverables.
  • Evaluating business cases for external documentation and developing a strategy and a team to support as applicable.
  • Ensure creation of and adherence to standardization and documentation quality standards (including consistency, branding, adherence to a style guide, etc.) by all technical writers on the team. This may require review and editing or staffing team with an editor.
  • Define and own execution of technical writing mechanisms, including intake, prioritization, execution, and reporting processes.

What you’ll need to Succeed: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in English, Communication, Business Administration, Technical Writing, or business-related discipline.
  • 3+ years people leadership experience.
  • 6+ years of experience required in technical writing and documentation in a software development environment.
  • Proven ability to mentor, coach, and manage high-performing teams.
  • Strong understanding of software development processes, APIs, and modern documentation tools (e.g. Markdown, GitHub, Confluence)
  • Experience creating infographics such as diagrams, screenshots, workflows, graphs, etc.

Bonus Points! 

  • Experience in project management working within a software development or engineering context.
  • Experience in a product development organization.
  • Keen attention to detail to identify problems and processes that do not comply with protocol or standards.
  • Adept at ensuring consistency and accuracy in documentation.
  • MBA or Master’s degree in English, Communication, Business Administration, Technical Writing or other business-related discipline.
  • Experience working with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) both in-person and remote.
