Manufacturing Engineering Director

Job Summary

Iron Mountain is seeking a visionary and experienced Manufacturing Engineering Director to join our Global Operations team. In this role, you will lead a high-performing global team of process engineers, lean specialists, test engineers, and automation architects dedicated to the standardization and optimization of complex, high-variation manufacturing environments. You will bridge the gap between lean leadership and digital transformation, evolving manual-heavy workflows into a standardized, "smart" global network while ensuring world-class safety and zero-defect customer quality. The ideal candidate brings an exceptional senior leadership presence, possessing the strategic acumen to isolate the "critical few" priorities and deliver concise, high-impact reporting and executive presentations to senior stakeholders.

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

In this role, you will:

  • Drive Global Process Standardization: Design and implement a cohesive global framework to standardize manufacturing, test, and business processes across multiple international sites, consolidating legacy regional documentation into a single engineering truth.
  • Lead Lean & Continuous Improvement: Execute global Value Stream Mapping (VSM) exercises to eliminate waste, build and manage a high-ROI lean project pipeline, and cultivate a robust global Kaizen culture through Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Advance Automation & Industry 4.0: Identify high-value opportunities to augment manual workflows with Collaborative Robots (Cobots) and partner with Data Science teams to implement Machine Learning models for predictive maintenance and yield optimization.
  • Ensure Safety & Quality Compliance: Enforce "Design for Safety" (DfS) protocols to reduce incident rates, architect 1:1 component-level traceability frameworks to meet client audit requirements, and align all engineering outputs with Customer Quality Agreements.
  • Executive Reporting & Strategic Prioritization: Cut through operational complexity to identify what truly matters—analyzing and elevating the "critical few" metrics, risks, and strategic initiatives.
  • Deliver High-Impact Presentations: Design, create, and deliver high-caliber presentation materials tailored for senior leadership and board-level reviews, translating technical and operational complexities into concise, actionable business narratives.

What You’ll Bring (Skills & Qualifications)

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Senior Leadership Presence & Interaction: Proven track record of operating with poise and credibility at all organizational levels. Exceptional ability to engage, align, and partner effectively with both front-line global engineering teams and executive leadership.
  • Strategic Articulation & Synthesis: Outstanding analytical and verbal synthesis skills, with a demonstrated ability to isolate key signals from noise, prioritize critical issues, and concisely brief senior executives.
  • Executive Presentation Mastery: Advanced capability to create and present polished, compelling presentation decks, dashboards, and executive summaries that drive decision-making.
  • Senior Engineering Leadership: 10–15+ years of senior leadership experience within a High-Variation / High-Mix manufacturing environment, with a strong preference for a Tier 1 Contract Electronics Manufacturing background.
  • Lean & Automation Mastery: Expert-level knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and the Theory of Constraints (Six Sigma Black Belt preferred), paired with practical experience deploying Cobots and machine learning sensors.
  • Global Influence: A proven track record of managing remote teams across international time zones (EMEA, AMER, APAC) and the interpersonal influence required to guide regional site leaders to adopt global standards.
  • Required Education: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering; an MBA or advanced degree in Operations Management is a significant advantage.

What We Offer (Benefits)

  • Compensation: Competitive compensation and executive benefits packages aligned with your experience level.
  • Work-Life Balance: Generous paid time off, holiday schedules, and flexible work options to support personal well-being.
  • Health & Future: Comprehensive health, wellness, and retirement investment plans.
  • Growth: Meaningful global leadership opportunities for continuous learning and professional career growth within Iron Mountain.
