JOB SUMMARY

The Manager, Margin & Operations Finance will serve as FP&A's primary finance partner to laboratory operations and related operating functions. The role will establish forward-looking visibility into cost of services, gross margin, cost-to-serve, capacity, labor productivity, reagent and consumable utilization, supply-chain economics, and operational improvement initiatives. The Manager will translate operating activity into financial outcomes and support decisions that improve scalability and margin while maintaining a clear separation from Controllership's ownership of historical cost accounting, inventory valuation, accounting policy, and close activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES

• COS Forecasting: Own the forward-looking FP&A forecast for cost of services using volume, labor, reagent, consumable, send-out, logistics, and other relevant operational drivers.

• Gross Margin Planning: Translate revenue and operating assumptions into gross-margin outlooks by major test type, platform, or other meaningful business dimension.

• Cost-to-Serve: Develop and maintain cost-per-test and cost-to-serve models that identify the true economic drivers of delivering major testing services.

• Cost Driver Analytics: Quantify and monitor key fixed, variable, and semi-variable cost drivers and their relationship to testing volumes and mix.

• Capacity Planning: Model laboratory capacity, throughput, utilization, and incremental capacity requirements under forecasted demand scenarios.

• Labor Productivity: Analyze staffing, overtime, throughput, labor utilization, and productivity; connect operational measures to labor cost and margin outcomes.

• Reagent and Consumable Economics: Analyze utilization, yield, waste, purchase economics, and volume sensitivity for significant reagents and consumables.

• Supply Chain Finance: Partner with Supply Chain and Procurement to evaluate sourcing, purchasing, inventory, and vendor initiatives from a forward-looking financial perspective.

• Margin Bridges: Produce integrated gross-margin bridges separating ASP, volume, mix, labor, material, productivity, and other cost effects.

• Operational Variance Analysis: Explain actual versus budget/forecast COS and margin performance and distinguish operational causes from accounting or timing effects.

• Cost Reduction and Automation Initiatives: Establish financial baselines, validate business cases, and track realized savings from automation, workflow redesign, sourcing, insourcing/outsourcing, and other margin initiatives.

• Business Cases: Evaluate equipment, automation, capacity expansion, insourcing/outsourcing, and other operating investments using ROI, payback, NPV, and scenario analysis where appropriate.

• Operational KPIs: Develop leading financial and operational indicators that provide early warning of cost, capacity, and margin pressure.

• Forecast Accuracy: Track COS and gross-margin forecast accuracy and improve underlying operating assumptions and driver relationships.

• Risks and Opportunities: Maintain quantified margin risks and opportunities and integrate material items into enterprise forecasting.

• Operations Partnership: Participate in operating reviews and translate operational performance into financial implications, actions, and forecast changes.

• Executive and Board Support: Prepare margin, cost, and operational-performance analyses for executive reviews, forecasts, and Board materials.

• Systems Enablement: Partner with FP&A Systems & BI to embed cost drivers, operational assumptions, and margin reporting into Adaptive and governed BI tools.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Industrial Engineering, Operations, or related field required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.

• Typically 7+ years of progressive FP&A, operations finance, cost analytics, or strategic-finance experience; diagnostics, laboratory, manufacturing, healthcare operations, or another high-volume operating environment preferred.

• Strong knowledge of cost behavior, fixed versus variable cost structures, gross margin, standard costs, and operational-driver modeling.

• Demonstrated ability to build cost-to-serve, capacity, productivity, business-case, and scenario models.

• Experience partnering directly with Operations, Supply Chain, Procurement, or technical leaders and constructively challenging operating assumptions.

• Advanced Excel and financial-modeling skills; Workday Adaptive Planning or comparable EPM experience preferred.

• Experience analyzing labor, materials/reagents, consumables, logistics, send-outs, and other operational cost drivers strongly preferred.

• Ability to distinguish accounting variance from underlying operational economics and translate findings into management actions.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex margin and operational issues to senior leadership.

MEASURES OF SUCCESS

• Reliable driver-based COS and gross-margin forecasts with improving forecast accuracy.

• Transparent cost-to-serve and capacity economics for major testing activities.

• Clear quantification and tracking of margin-improvement initiatives and realized savings.

• Early identification of productivity, capacity, and cost risks before they materially affect financial results.

• Operations leaders routinely use FP&A analyses in staffing, capacity, sourcing, and investment decisions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Frequently required to sit.

• Frequently required to utilize hand and finger dexterity.

• Frequently required to talk or hear.
