Who are we and why should you join us?

BetterHelp is on a mission to remove the traditional barriers to therapy and make mental health care more accessible to everyone. Founded in 2013, we are now the world’s largest online therapy service, providing affordable and convenient therapy across the globe. Our network of over 30,000 licensed therapists has helped millions of people take ownership of their mental health and change their lives forever. And we’re not stopping there – as the unmet need for mental health services continues to grow, BetterHelp is committed to being part of the solution.

As the Market & Consumer Research Analyst Intern at BetterHelp, you’ll join a diverse team of licensed clinicians, engineers, product pros, creatives, marketers, and business leaders who share a passion for expanding access to therapy. And as a mental health company, we take employee mental health just as seriously as we do our mission. We deeply invest in our team’s well-being and professional development, because we know that business and individual growth go hand-in-hand. At BetterHelp, you’ll carve your own path, make an immediate impact, and be challenged every day – with a supportive community behind you the whole way.

What are we looking for?

BetterHelp is looking for a Market & Consumer Research Analyst Intern to join our marketing team this summer. The ideal candidate is someone who is curious, empathetic, and energized by turning data into stories that drive real decisions.

In this role, you’ll help shape how we understand our members, who they are, what they need, and how we can better reach people seeking mental health support. This is a cross-functional research role focused on three things: research, data, and storytelling.

These insights will directly influence how millions of people find and experience therapy. From day one, you’ll work on real projects with real member data, not busywork.

You don’t need deep technical skills, but you should be comfortable working with data and confident in translating numbers into clear, compelling narratives.

What will you do?
  • Consumer Understanding: Research who our members are, their age groups, needs, pain points, and behaviors across marketing channels and geographies.
  • Competitive & Market Intelligence: Support the monthly delivery of competitive insights by channel and country/geo group for the marketing team. Track and analyze competitor activity, consumer trends, and public feedback across platforms like Reddit, Trustpilot, YouTube, and TikTok.
  • Global & Cultural Insights: Collaborate with international teams to surface region-specific user behaviors, cultural nuances, and marketing considerations across BetterHelp’s global markets.
  • Reporting & Storytelling: Lead monthly and quarterly reporting on consumer and market insights, funnel performance, and emerging trends. Develop frameworks for monitoring brand perception and sentiment using social listening tools.
What will you NOT do?
  • You will NOT worry about "runway", "cash left", or "how much time we have until the next round". We have the startup DNA but we're fully backed and funded, all the way to success.
  • You will NOT be confined to your "job". You will get involved in product, marketing, business strategy, and almost everything we do.
  • You will NOT be bogged down by office politics, ego, or bad attitude. Only positive, pleasure-to-work-with people are allowed here!
  • You will NOT get yourself burned out. We work hard but we believe in maintaining a sustainable work/life balance. Really.
What will you learn?
  • How to design and field consumer research in a fast-moving digital health environment
  • How to translate behavioral data into executive-ready stories that move leadership teams to action
  • How to use modern research tools — from social listening platforms to AI-powered insights tools
  • How competitive intelligence and market analysis directly shape global marketing strategy
  • What it’s like to work cross-functionally in a high-growth telehealth company that’s making mental health care accessible to everyone
Can I work remotely?

Yes. We operate on PST and candidates in any time zone are welcome to apply.

Requirements
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Psychology, Marketing, Statistics, Business, Economics, Data Science, Sociology, Communications, or a related field
  • Coursework or project experience in research methods, consumer behavior, marketing, statistics, or data analysis
  • Strong ability to synthesize findings into clear narratives and actionable insights
  • Comfortable using data to validate ideas and inform decisions (experience with Excel, Google Sheets, and basic SQL is a plus)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills — able to convey insights to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • A passion for understanding people, asking thoughtful questions, and turning feedback into strategic direction
  • Curious, collaborative, and energized by the opportunity to make a real impact on how people access mental health support

Bonus

  • Experience with survey platforms like Qualtrics or SurveyMonkey
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, or Google Looker Studio)
  • Exposure to social listening platforms
  • Interest in or experience with AI-powered research tools (Generative AI tools and AI Literacy)
Benefits
  • The chance to build something that changes lives – and that people love
  • An awesome community of co-workers
  • Meaningful projects: Apply your education to real-world challenges through hands-on, impactful work that is both rigorous and rewarding.
  • Growth & development: Expand your skills through mentoring, job shadowing, lunch & learns, and hands-on project work that supports your personal and professional growth.
  • Dedicated support: Benefit from a manager and mentor who will provide ongoing guidance and support throughout your internship.

The hourly rate for this position is $20 - $25 per hour.
