Job Description:

MARKETING COPYWRITER - Merkle

Marketing Copywriter, Campaign Content

Position Goal: Create compelling, strategically driven copy that brings Merkle's marketing campaigns and events to life across channels. From supporting senior content strategists with thought leadership content, to owning promotional content that drives engagement and conversion, the main goal is to position Merkle’s expertise and drive leads.

How You Do It: Merkle's marketing team operates at the intersection of complex technology solutions and human-centered storytelling. This role requires a skilled copywriter who can translate technical capabilities into clear, persuasive narratives that resonate with CMOs, marketing leaders, and enterprise decision-makers. You'll partner closely with marketing strategists, content strategists, and practice area experts to execute integrated campaigns across Merkle's strategic themes/growth areas.

This position requires work that will span the full content spectrum including long-form thought leadership (eBooks, whitepapers, research reports) to promotional assets (LinkedIn posts, email campaigns, blog articles) with some web copy to support campaign assets. These campaigns integrate proprietary research, client success stories, and cutting-edge industry perspectives.

Requirements:

Core Competencies:

  • Strategic thinking with tactical execution: You understand campaign objectives and can translate strategy into copy that moves audiences through the funnel stages from awareness to consideration to conversion.
  • Versatility across formats: Equal comfort writing 3,000+ word thought leadership pieces, 280-character social posts, compelling case studies, persuasive web pages, and items in between.
  • Simplification mastery: An exceptional ability to distill complex technical concepts (CRM platforms, identity resolution, AI automation, data architecture) into clear, engaging language that executive audiences can immediately grasp and value.
  • Outcome-oriented copywriting: You lead with results and problem-solving, not features, and understand the common problems Merkle’s audiences face.
  • Brand voice consistency: Strong editorial instincts that maintain Merkle's authentic authoritative tone while adapting style for different audiences, channels, and campaign objectives.

Working Style:

  • Collaborative partnership: You thrive working alongside strategists, designers, and subject matter experts. You ask smart questions, synthesize input from multiple stakeholders, and respond constructively to feedback.
  • Process-driven organization: You manage copy for multiple campaigns simultaneously, meet deadlines consistently, and maintain quality standards even when priorities shift. Project management skills are essential.
  • Iterative improvement mindset: You're comfortable with rounds of refinement and understand that great copy often emerges through collaboration and revision, not first drafts.
  • Proactive contribution: You bring ideas to campaign planning discussions, suggest content angles based on industry trends, and identify opportunities to repurpose or amplify existing assets.

Technical Requirements:

  • 5+ years of professional copywriting experience in enterprise or b2b marketing, technology marketing, or agency environments
  • Portfolio demonstrating range across long-form thought leadership, web copy, and promotional content
  • Experience writing for senior executive audiences (C-suite, VP-level decision-makers)
  • Proven ability to work with subject matter experts to extract insights and translate technical information
  • Comfort with content management systems, collaboration tools, and feedback platforms
  • Understanding of SEO principles and how to optimize web copy for search and conversion
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, English, or related field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in marketing technology, customer experience, or digital transformation sectors
  • Background in campaign development from concept through execution
  • Understanding of demand generation and lead nurture strategies
  • Portfolio showing measurable content performance (engagement metrics, conversion rates, pipeline influence)

This role offers the opportunity to shape how Merkle shows up in the market and continue to move the brand beyond generic consulting language to owning the narrative that organizational transformation, not just technology, drives success. If you're a strategic storyteller who can make complex ideas accessible and compelling, we'd love to hear from you.
