Senior Corporate & Financial Communications Manager
We are building technology to make global trade easy. The opportunity:
Flexport is looking for a senior corporate & financial communications professional to join the Communications team. You will articulate what makes our company valuable to clients, how we solve problems for our total addressable market and the massive impact we can have on global logistics as we grow. You will also help protect and promote Flexport’s corporate brand, showcasing company growth following 2020, our strongest year of growth on record, growing revenue 1.9x to $1.29b.
You will be part of our Global Brand team, working closely with teammates in Growth, Product Marketing and Internal Comms, and importantly, with our technology and business executives and subject matter experts across the company.
Within the Communications team, you’ll own issues and crisis communications as well as financial comms, rounding out a team of tech and industry comms experts. You’ll also drive all external communications around corporate initiatives, conceptualizing, researching and delivering stories that move the needle for Flexport in a noisy - and sometimes chaotic - landscape.
You will:
- Build Flexport’s reputation as a world-class technology company through media relations, developing stories and angles that can be repurposed across the Brand team’s channels
- Manage tier-1 business press; research media and target audiences, analyze audience conversations, and drive ongoing proactive news bureau activities
- Advise the larger Comms team on any communications touching company financials and within Flexport, own any media relations on the topic
- Develop messaging, write press materials, long and short form content, and other documents, including executive briefing books and FAQs
- Lead on issues: You’ll develop our issues & crisis comms playbooks from scratch as well as manage issues in the moment.
- Mentor and work with global PR partners around corporate stories that advance their regional priorities
- Roll up your sleeves: we run a tight team and everyone chips in on routine communications activities like reporting and updating our press page
You should have:
- A deeply curious mentality: you’re excited to learn about complex problems in a complex industry, and tell the story of how technology can help untangle some legacy pain points in global trade
- 7+ years of experience with the scope outlined above, spanning corporate media, issues and crisis, and financial comms; executive management experience is a must, in-house and agency experience is preferred.
- Strong organizational skills: you know how to manage complex projects, multiple stakeholders and competing priorities to create an actionable plan and get the most impactful work done
- A strategic mindset: you’re always looking around the corner for Flexport while focused on maximizing impact today
- Rigorous decision-making ability: your recommendations are a mix of data and intuition
- A true team player mentality: you think across the full spectrum of channels available to us in Brand. Flexport is a team-oriented company that requires effective collaboration to drive company-wide results. You are someone who not only likes working in a team, but enjoys leading one, too
- Proactivity in planning and poise in building the feedback loop that will make your plan a success: determining and informing the right stakeholders in Communications and beyond, gaining their buy-in and keeping them informed
- Readiness to roll up your sleeves: we run a lean team so you’ll lead the Corporate Communications discipline but also form and pitch the stories. Sometimes, you’ll be the final editor, sometimes you’ll provide the first draft
- Incredible writing and communication skills
