The Mechanical Engineer III is a senior-level role responsible for leading and executing complex mechanical design and project management tasks across a diverse portfolio of projects. They work with minimal oversight, this position serves as both a technical leader and collaborative team member, providing expertise in HVAC and building systems design.
Typical responsibilities include performing advanced HVAC design and load calculations, developing hydronic system layouts with flow and pressure calculations, and selecting and specifying mechanical equipment. Additional duties include designing fire protection systems, coordinating underground utilities, and producing high-quality specifications and construction documents. The Mechanical Engineer III ensures all designs meet applicable codes, standards, and client requirements while delivering innovative, cost-effective solutions.
What you will do:
Lead or support mechanical engineering design for a variety of building projects with minimal oversight
Perform HVAC system load calculations, equipment sizing, and energy efficiency analysis
Design hydronic systems, perform flow and pressure calculations, and select appropriate pumps and piping configurations
Develop fire protection system layouts and coordinate with other disciplines for integration
Coordinate underground mechanical utilities with civil, structural, and other site-related work
Prepare detailed drawings, specifications, and construction documents using Revit and AutoCAD
Ensure all designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements
Review and approve mechanical engineering calculations, drawings, and specifications
Participate in multidisciplinary coordination meetings with architects, engineers, and contractors
Provide construction administration support, including reviewing submittals, responding to RFIs, and performing site visits
Mentor junior engineers and designers, providing technical guidance and quality review
Manage portions of projects including budgets, schedules, and deliverables
Who you are:
Four-year bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an ABET accredited institution
6-8 years of experience in mechanical engineering required
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) required
Proficiency in HVAC and hydronic system design, calculations, and equipment selection
Knowledge of fire protection system design and underground utility coordination
Strong understanding of mechanical codes and standards (ASHRAE, NFPA, IMC, IPC)
Skilled in Revit and AutoCAD for MEP system modeling and documentation
Ability to develop detailed engineering specifications and construction documents
Experience with project management, including scope, schedule, and budget oversight
Strong multidisciplinary coordination skills with other engineering and architectural disciplines
Excellent problem-solving, attention to detail, and quality control abilities
Effective verbal and written communication skills for client and team interaction
Ability to mentor junior engineers and work independently with minimal supervision
