Department Overview
The Cobalt Services area is responsible for the entire lifecycle of essential shared services in the Command Central cloud-native software suite, offering capabilities such as the Events Pipeline, Rules Engine, Unit and Device management, Mapping, GIS, and Messaging services, which integrate and support multiple mission-critical products across the organization. The Cobalt Services DevOps team of experts operates as a Center of Excellence (CoE) by fostering a culture of operational excellence, managing the cloud infrastructure, deployments, and pipelines, and defining and enforcing a set of best practices and automation standards.
Job Description

Job Description We are seeking a skilled, driven, and proactive Mid-level DevOps Engineer to join our team. These individuals will be the hands-on force behind our CI/CD transformation, actively helping our development teams build and improve their new release processes on a daily basis. This is a pivotal role for a creative, precise, and motivated individual with a strong background in cloud-native solutions, modern software tooling, and processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cloud Infrastructure: Architect, implement, and maintain scalable, highly reliable infrastructure in both Azure and AWS using Terraform for all Infrastructure as Code (IaC) initiatives.

  • CI/CD Modernization: Design and implement modern CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions, ADO pipelines, and a GitOps approach using Argo CD or Flux CD.

  • Container Orchestration: Contribute to the design, implementation, and hands-on management of our containerized environments on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and/or AWS EKS.

  • DevOps Tools & Security: Implement and manage essential tools for monitoring (Kibana, Grafana, Datadog) and security scanning (Sonarqube, OWASP, ZAP, Mend, Twistlock).

  • Operational Excellence: Provide expert DevOps support to our Engineering Feature teams across all Azure Cloud environments, from development to production. Serve as a key member of the top-tier support team for escalated infrastructure issues and participate in an after-hours on-call rotation to address critical downtime.

  • Collaboration & Mentorship: Work collaboratively with the development team, sharing knowledge, and promoting best practices to build a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Cloud-Native Innovation: Proactively investigate and recommend cutting-edge tools and methodologies that enhance our strategic goals.

  • GenAI Integration: Leverage GenAI tools to streamline workflows and enhance operational efficiency, including automating code generation for Infrastructure as Code (IaC), generating test cases, and providing intelligent troubleshooting suggestions for CI/CD pipelines.


Basic Requirements
  • Experience: Minimum of 4+ years of dedicated DevOps experience supporting cloud-only infrastructure environments, with at least 2 years specifically in Microsoft Azure.

  • Cloud Platforms: Proven hands-on experience with both Azure and AWS.

  • IaC & Automation: Expert knowledge of Terraform for managing cloud resources and solid scripting skills in PowerShell, Python, and/or Bash.

  • CI/CD: Strong experience with GitHub Actions and/or ADO pipelines, as well as a strong understanding of GitOps methodology.

  • Containerization: Hands-on experience with Docker and managing container orchestration platforms like AKS and/or EKS in a production setting.

  • Technical Communication: Proven ability to effectively communicate technical information in English, both verbally and in writing, with both local and remote teams.

  • Mentality: A strong desire to simplify complex processes and a willingness to rethink existing workflows from the ground up.
     

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • Knowledge of monitoring and logging tools such as Kibana, Grafana, Azure Monitor, and Application Insights, and security scanning tools like Sonarqube, OWASP, ZAP, Mend, and Twistlock.

  • Experience with relational (e.g., Azure SQL Database) and document (e.g., Azure Cosmos DB) database systems.

  • Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure DevOps Engineer Expert or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional.

  • Ability to navigate a complex multi-team and fast-paced environment.

  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and a high sense of ownership.

  • A strong problem-solver with an inquisitive nature.

  • A pragmatic approach to keeping solutions simple and efficient.
