Job Summary
Individual contributor provides highest level of expertise for development, specification and communication of the company's technology architecture plan, the infrastructure components required to support it, and in the integration of corporate and business area architectures. Leads multiple projects for the area. Develops innovative and effective solutions for the most diverse and most complex business problems.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
- Acts as principal designer for major corporate systems architecture including applications, data, and infrastructure architectures.
- Responsible for developing, recommending and executing strategic and tactical business and technology roadmaps in conjunction with business partners and strategy teams; describing the evolution of enterprise portfolios from current state to future state.
- Consult on technology solutions, provide governance, oversight and strategic insight to all work in the domain and identify cross domain/ enterprise synergies and impacts across business areas
- Maintains the definition of the business domain/ component model at a conceptual level and the inventory/diagrams of the application landscape for the business domain including key capabilities, integrations, and functionality of each application
- Evaluates overall risk scores for all technology assets supporting the domain and develops the strategic disposition for all applications
- Recommends initiatives to advance business capabilities and mature/simplify technology capabilities as part of the domain roadmap and identify synergies across the enterprise portfolios
- Develop architectural strategies for cross domain/ enterprise capabilities that serve as foundational components for the business
- Research industry and emerging trends in technology as it relates to the business domains and recommend appropriate use cases and considerations for advancement
- Serve as primary leader driving decision phases for large initiatives to identify and solve for critical business decisions, solution assessments, and recommended architecture
- Assess business processes related to the business problem to map/propose appropriate technology solution components
- Owns conceptual solution overview including contextual, component, integration/data flow designs and systems impacted systems in order to solve business problem.
May perform additional duties as assigned.
Reporting Relationship
Typically AVP or above
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
1. Expert knowledge of design and implementation of enterprise workflow systems, distributed architecture, intranet/internet architecture, and communication architectures.
2. A senior level knowledge of the system development life cycle, and system and application program development technological alternatives and architecture methodologies for multi-platform environments.
3. Must be competent to work at the highest technical level of all phases of system architecture design using state of the art decoupled and event based API enabled architecture. Strong knowledge of contemporary technology and business trends that allows architecture to solve problems in a creative and cost effective manner.
6. Senior level understanding of client area's functions and systems, prior insurance experience preferred
7. Excellent communication and interpersonal and consultative skills to work effectively with vendors, clients, peers, and IT management and staff.
8. Must be able to clearly communicate complex technical and business concepts both to business partners and team members.
9. Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
10. Working knowledge of systems architectural concepts and frameworks like TOGAF preferred.
11. Experience developing 3-5 year roadmaps outlining the evolution of the enterprise application portfolios from current to future state.
Education & Experience
1. Advanced degree in Computer Science, or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
2. Typically a minimum of nine years of solid, diverse work experience in IT including experience with business analysis and systems architecture methodologies.
3. Some previous project leadership experience is desirable.
4. Applicable certifications preferred.
