About Flatiron School

Flatiron School teaches passionate, creative people how to code. We’ve been teaching since 2012, and now we’re developing software and programs to bring our successful curriculum to more students. We are more than just a school — we are a team of mission-driven individuals trying to align education with reality.

Over our five years as a school, we’ve helped over one thousand students learn to code and launch careers in tech. To achieve these outcomes, we’ve never let ourselves stop growing – we’ve constantly iterated on our curriculum, evolved our teaching techniques, and created technology to improve our students’ learning experience.

For the next step in our growth, Flatiron School has joined the WeWork family. In WeWork, we’ve found a partner who shares the mission we’ve had since the beginning: to enable passionate people to learn the skills they need to pursue careers and lives they love. And that mission won’t change. As part of WeWork, we look forward to working together to expand our in-person and online programs and further increase accessibility to our transformative education.

An Insider's view of Flatiron School

How does your team reward individual success?

We acknowledge wins on our team all the time! Since we work so closely as a team, one person's success is actually the whole team's. It could be as simple as a Slack message to the team or sharing the news on a regional level so that it's acknowledged at the next all-company meeting.

Michelle

Community Lead, Marketing

What projects are you most excited about?

I’m excited about working with students and instructors alike as we cook up ways for designers, data scientists, and software engineers to collaborate with one another. I want our graduates to leave our school with experience communicating and building things on an interdisciplinary team, so they can confidently launch a new career in tech.

Duke

What is your vision for the company?

To bring accessibility to tech education, to leverage our resources to retrain and up-skill Chicago talent, to deepen our standing as a market leader in technology, and to create meaningful relationships within the Chicago community through business, governmental and philanthropic partnerships that drive actionable change.

What makes someone successful on your team?

Any successful member of our team needs to be adaptable and flexible. No two classes are alike, and the strategies that worked last time might not work this time. You need to be able to change your attitude and methods on the fly to make sure that your students get the possible education you can give them.
