As Director of Communications, you will lead B2B and B2C Communications. You’ll own telling stories that increase Upwork awareness and favorable brand perception among clients and freelancers, working closely without Corporate Communications, Economic Research, and Social Media teams. 

This is an ideal position for a self-starter with a passion for working with various industry influencers (from media to independent talent to academics) and excitement for shaping the future of work.

Responsibilities:

• In partnership with the VP of Communications, ensure the communications plan supports Upwork’s business objectives
• Build out the B2B and B2C Communications team
• Manage our PR agency
• Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure we are leveraging every distribution channel at our disposal to amplify stories
• Work with the communications managers to manage our spokesperson program, including selecting, training and preparing media spokespeople and secure and plan executive speaking engagements
• Develop and maintain excellent relationships with influencers - including media, technology analysts, freelancers, and clients 
• Help build, train, coach, mentor and retain an outstanding team of communications professionals
