We’re looking for a Laboratory Technician to join our Research and Innovation Team in Chicago, IL. 

The Laboratory Technician will support the Research & Innovation Operations team and utilize the fundamental principles, knowledge of food products and processes to support the continued growth of our brand.

Our ideal candidate has an interest in operations and lab management to manage and process quality initiatives and product development, establish standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the lab, set up and manage equipment, and work closely with our product development and research team to ensure all project needs are met. This person must be organized, a strong collaborator, is looking to be part of an exciting, fast-paced, innovative company, and hungry to grow a new brand. 

General Functions + Job Responsibilities:

• Provide support to R&I initiatives:
• Partner with Product Developers to execute recipe testing for new initiatives, continuous improvement initiatives, and alternate supplier evaluations
• Partner with Researchers to evaluate products, ingredients and processes
• Support manufacturing of new product development
• Support management and storage of experimental finished product
• Work with the Operations Lead in supporting Quality initiatives:
• Support current production and product development quality reviews through evaluation, analysis, document management and data entry
• Support information management of food ingredients: inventory, SDS database and
• Management of production retain samples
• Support the function of our lab through equipment maintenance, calibrations, and cleaning
• Maintain laboratory SOPs and ensure all work areas, supplies and equipment are kept clean, neat and organized
• Other laboratory technician and operations assignments as needed

Skills & Qualifications:

• Positive attitude, a thirst for knowledge, and an excitement for growing our business
• HS diploma or equivalent required – Associates in Applied Science (AAS) or Bachelor of Science (BS) in Life Sciences field is preferred.
• Experience in the Food Industry in Quality Assurance (QA), Quality Control (QC), or Research & Innovation (R&I) related roles
• Solid verbal and written communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate at different levels with different personality types
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive, and quality/regulatory documentation management systems (ESHA Genesis)
• Familiarity with analytical and food manufacturing equipment (i.e Aw, moisture meter and texture analysis tools, mixers, ovens, packaging equipment etc.)
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment, effectively manage workload to meet deadlines, while ensuring a high standard of quality
• Self-starter with strong organizational skills who is extremely result and detail oriented
• Creative problem-solving abilities
