The Position: 

We are seeking a creative, disciplined, and strategic leader to join our People Team as the Senior Director of Organizational Effectiveness. This role will lead Root’s OE function and foster an enterprise-wide culture of cross-collaboration and innovation through organizational and process design, talent activation, team effectiveness and change management. This role has overall responsibility for leading, managing, and improving the programs, projects, and processes relating to the overall employee experience and determining appropriate actions and functional needs to improve employee advancement and retention including, but not limited to, the future of work and the workplace, succession planning and organizational design and learning and development.

 

We seek an entrepreneurial, strategic, and creative individual to help us take this work forward during an exciting juncture of growth and adaptation across our organization. Strong verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to think creatively and strategically about how to improve organizational systems and practices is required. 

 

Reports to: Chief People Officer 

What you'll be doing:

    • Participate in the development of Root's strategic plans and identify employee experience opportunities, translating them into HR people strategies.
    • Oversees the learning and development and performance function of the business.
    • Partner closely and become a trusted advisor to the People Strategy team (HRBP) and business leaders.
    • Strategic thinking in seeing the big picture, interpreting business strategy and translating to short/long term objectives and tactical application.
    • Contribute to the development of leadership team and provide organization effectiveness (OE) support in achieving implementation of a delivery model, which is responsive to and supportive of organization and business needs, goals, and objectives, while embracing Root’s mission and values.
    • Lead, direct, coach and guide leaders in identifying, prioritizing and building talent strategies & processes.
    • Develop and oversee the execution of tactical plans to improve the overall operational efficiency and effectiveness of HR practices impacting the overall employee experience for today and the future.
    • Lead employee feedback channels and communication (engagement survey, pulse surveys, etc.) & support Company-wide and/or targeted initiatives to address opportunity areas.
    • Champion talent assessment and performance management to support a culture of high performance and innovation while positively impacting overall employee retention.
    • Effectively coach executives and other leaders in matters relating to people operations processes & experience to drive high performance and motivate employees.

Who we're looking for:

    • 15+ years of progressively more responsible Organization Effectiveness work experience including demonstrated experience, with proven outcomes, designing organizational strategies that support business strategies and goals.
    • 15+ years of experience leading a team involving organization effectiveness and learning & development work.
    • Proven management, leadership and facilitation skills.
    • Ability to direct, lead and innovate.
    • Ability to overcome resistance to change while preparing and supporting those affected by change. 
    • Demonstrated skill in collaborating and partnering in order to garner support and build trusting and permanent relationships, partnerships and alliances with various groups and interests.
    • Demonstrated track record and core competencies in the functional areas of Employee Engagement & Experience, Talent and Performance Management
    • Successful track record of strong project management across a series of competing priorities.
    • Strategic mindset with a willingness to be hands-on and ensure operational excellence. Demonstrated strong communication/interpersonal & facilitation skills across all levels of an organization, including C-Suite; ability to manage by influence.
    • Ability to coach others to instill a sense of responsibility, uses ownership as a way to empower people towards greater results.
    • Display analytical thought leadership on the HR process flows and infrastructure.
    • Demonstrated ability to synthesize quantitative data into easy-to-understand and actionable recommendations through a consulting mindset to achieve progress and positively impact business operations.

Preferred Qualification

    • Master's degree in Organizational Development, Organizational Effectiveness, Industrial Psychology or equivalent.
