JOB SUMMARY

ThermFlo supports large companies, municipalities, and healthcare systems in the Upper Midwest providing 24/7 service for mission critical power generation, thermal, and data center systems. The Outside Sales – Generator Equipment role cultivates deep relationships with existing and new customers as their trusted advisor for capital investments in mission critical systems, selling and quoting power generation solutions and system upgrades for both greenfield and brownfield applications. The Outside Sales – Generator Equipment role partners with clients helping them have the peace of mind of uninterrupted business and growing our industrial generator sales customer base and improving the wallet share of existing customers. This role is responsible for driving revenue growth through consultative selling of Generac power generation solutions. The ideal candidate will act as a strategic advisor to clients, helping them mitigate risk and ensure operational continuity through tailored generator systems and upgrades.”

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Outside Sales – Generator Equipment Representative sells new power generation and industrial energy sales through creative and scalable strategies with customers in IL, IN, and WI tri-state area.

Their main duties include:

  • Translate complex technical specifications into clear business value propositions that resonate with stakeholders across operations, finance, and executive leadership.
  • Develop and execute strategic territory plans to expand market share, penetrate new verticals, and achieve growth objectives.
  • Maintain a robust pipeline of qualified opportunities using CRM tools and sales analytics.
  • Lead solution-based consultative sales engagements, including site assessments, proposal development, ROI analysis, and solutions presentations.
  • Collaborate with manufacturer reps and channel partners to co-sell and leverage joint marketing efforts.
  • Prospect and re-engage new and existing customers through networking, cold/warm calling, and in-person visits to build lasting client relationships.
  • Partner with engineering, field technicians, and internal subject matter experts to sell power generation and industrial energy systems replacements and upgrades.
  • Manage service contracts and nurture non-contract accounts to ensure retention and satisfaction.
  • Utilize CRM reporting to improve sales efficiency, track performance, and enhance customer communication.
  • Continuously expand product knowledge through company training and manufacturer-led sessions to stay ahead of industry trends.
  • Drive generator sales by collaborating with internal and external teams to meet or exceed quotas and profit targets.
  • Attend industry networking events to generate leads, strengthen professional connections, and remain current on market developments.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Comprehends and adheres to all safety, quality, and Company guidelines specified in the Employee Handbook, the safety policy manuals, quality procedures or any official Company documents.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Commercial Experience: Proven track record of exceeding sales targets in capital equipment or technical solution sales. Experience selling into industrial, healthcare, municipal, or commercial verticals preferred. Ability to manage long sales cycles and navigate complex procurement processes
  • Technical Skills: 2-5 years of working knowledge of thermal, power generation, and electrical systems including equipment, service, and maintenance requirements for commercial or residential buildings.
  • Computer Proficiency: Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. Strong understanding of CRM software and ability to track and analyze customer data and reporting.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Ability to listen effectively and understand the needs of internal and external customers. Ability to talk with customers, coworkers, and vendors, and appropriately adjust technical content to meet different audience knowledge. Must be resourceful, self-motivated, customer focused, and results driven.

PREFERABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Trade School, Associate’s degree, and/or Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, thermal science, or related technical field.
  • Commercial Experience: in service maintenance agreement sales with basic knowledge of mission critical facility equipment and building automation systems preferred.
  • Team-oriented and results driven: Works well in a collaborative selling environment; resourceful, self-motivated, customer focused.
  • Generator product expertise: Experience with Generac or similar generator product lines is highly desirable.
  • Electrical systems knowledge: Familiarity with electrical distribution systems, ATS, UPS, and load bank testing is a plus.

WORK AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Driving/Travel Responsibilities: This position requires occasional travel including potential weekly customer and site visits. Efforts are primarily focused within the Chicagoland area/tristate region, and the home office is in Buffalo Grove. Occasional national travel may be required to support prospects, clients, and related events such as trade shows, etc. International travel is not anticipated but may be required based on client need. A valid driver’s license, current automobile insurance, and valid passport are required.
  • Physical Demands: This position requires the ability to operate within an office environment and occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Reasonable accommodations will be provided aligned with current federal and state regulations upon request.
  • Work Environment: This position will have a similar split between working in a professional office environment and working in field environments.
  • Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is a salaried + incentive-based, full-time position operating Monday-Friday with occasional evening and weekend requirements in the case of customer emergencies.
