Thrasher Partners is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Payroll Accountant to oversee payroll for several entities that make up our Central Region. This position reports directly to the Regional Controller and plays an integral role in the regional accounting team.
The Payroll Accountant will be primarily responsible for ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time while maintaining compliance with all applicable payroll tax laws and company policies. In addition to payroll, this role will provide support for select accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general accounting activities, helping maintain accurate financial records and strong internal controls across the organization.
This position partners closely with Human Resources, Accounting, and operational teams to ensure reporting accuracy, timely transaction processing, and continuous process improvement.

As a Payroll Accountant, you will:
Payroll & Payroll Accounting
- Process weekly payroll accurately and on schedule for multiple companies.
- Prepare and calculate sales commissions, production incentives, bonuses, and other variable compensation programs to support payroll processing.
- Prepare payroll-related journal entries and maintain thorough supporting documentation.
- Reconcile payroll tax liabilities, benefit-related accounts, and other payroll-related balance sheet accounts.
- Support the preparation, reconciliation, and filing of W-2s and other payroll tax reporting requirements.
- Partner with Human Resources and operational teams to resolve payroll questions and ensure accurate employee records and compensation information.
- Assist with payroll process improvements, automation initiatives, and internal control enhancements.
- Provide support for other month-end accounting close procedures as needed.
Accounts Receivable & Accounts Payable Support
- Maintain accurate and timely customer, invoice, payment, and accounts receivable records.
- Monitor outstanding receivable balances and collaborate with operations to support timely collections and accurate revenue recognition.
- Partner with operations to ensure revenue and work-in-progress activity is recorded in the appropriate accounting period and that information is consistent between operational systems and the accounting system.
- Process vendor invoices, ensuring appropriate coding, approvals, and supporting documentation.
- Process and monitor vendor payments in accordance with established payment terms and company cash flow requirements.
- Reconcile vendor statements and billing platform records to the accounting system.
- Review and maintain company credit card transactions to ensure proper classification, documentation, and approvals.
- Assist with intercompany billing, cash disbursements, and other accounting activities as needed.
Education, Experience and Additional Skills
- 3+ years of payroll processing and payroll accounting experience; multi-company experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Strong understanding of payroll taxes, wage laws, and compliance requirements.
- Experience managing commission- or incentive-based compensation structures.
- Working knowledge of accounts receivable and accounts payable processes.
- Proficiency in payroll and accounting systems such as Rippling, with experience using advanced Microsoft Excel functions.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and account reconciliation.
- Exceptional accuracy, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet recurring deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with HR, operations, and accounting teams.
