Job Title: Power BI Developer
Location: Oak Brook, IL
Contract
Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Power BI Developer to join our healthcare analytics team, focusing on health insurance payer operations and utilization management reporting. This role combines technical expertise in business intelligence development with healthcare industry knowledge to deliver actionable insights that drive operational efficiency and member outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Scope, design, develop, and maintain Power BI dashboards, reports, and data models for Innovista Health’s payer operations
- Create interactive visualizations for utilization management metrics, claims analytics, and operational KPIs
- Build and optimize calculations, measures, and calculated columns for healthcare and operational metrics
- Develop automated ETL processes using T-SQL stored procedures
- Optimize report performance and ensure scalability across large datasets
- Collaborate with business and application teams to modify, enhance, and optimize existing PBI assets
- Maintain version control and documentation for all PBI assets
- Document PBI assets, owners, data sources
- Create and maintain wikis documenting the purpose, audience, and companion information for PBI asset
Required Qualifications
- Power BI Development: 2-4 years building dashboards, reports (stand alone and paginated), and data models.
- SQL Server: Advanced proficiency in T-SQL, stored procedures, views, joins, temp tables, and query optimization
- Power Query: Data transformation and ETL development
- SQL Server Agent: Job scheduling, maintenance plans, and automated workflows
- ETL: Experience with ETL and reporting tools like SSIS, SQL Server Import and Export Wizard, or similar technologies
- Experience in Python, Ruby, or PowerShell for scripting and automation tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Payer Operations: Knowledge of claims processing and claim concepts, provider and vendor data, staff productivity metrics
- Utilization Management: Familiarity with authorizations concepts
- Healthcare Data: General familiarity with healthcare claim concepts such as claims, enrollment, utilization, provider network data
Technical Competencies
- Extensive Microsoft PowerBI experience, including deployment, access management, and health monitoring
- Knowledge of star schema design and dimensional modeling
- Performance optimization for healthcare datasets
- Data governance and HIPAA-compliant user access best practice
- Version control and publication / deployment processes in PowerBI
- Integration between multiple analytical and application SQL Server databases and Power BI ecosystem
