Founded in 2002, PR by the Book is a boutique publicity firm specializing in literary media relations and social media campaigns for authors and experts.  We pride ourselves on offering a lifestyle company culture that includes a flexible schedule and a virtual office. 


Description:  A book publicist develops and executes PR/media campaigns for publishing houses, traditionally, hybrid and self-published authors. Position includes writing press materials, executing and overseeing media relations campaigns (to include landing mid to top-tier media exposure), strategy design, and author branding consulting.  


This position may also support our digital team as needed, with a focus on influencer outreach and digital marketing campaigns.


Qualifications:

  • Self-starter with initiative and literary creativity

  • 5+ years of book PR campaign management and execution

  • Influencer outreach and digital marketing experience

  • Proactive problem solver that is solutions-oriented

  • Book lover

  • Positive attitude/ team player

  • Understanding of Muck Rack media database a plus

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Independently manages workflow

  • Creative writer

  • Strong social media skills

  • Ability to work independently from a home office

  • Experience using AI as a tool for research, brainstorming, and ideation


Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage media relations campaign execution and client communication.

  • Pitch and secure traditional media placements, podcast features, and online media coverage and manage media requests.

  • Create compelling press packs, expert pages, sample media questions and media pitches.

  • Identify opportunities for contributed articles and creative placements for clients.

  • Develop, identify and maintain relationships with the media. 

  • Research media, newsworthy topics/events and angles/pitches online.

  • Work closely with our Director of Publicity to craft and execute PR campaigns.

  • Maintain communication with team and clients via Zoom, phone, and email for monthly updates and goal setting.

  • Review campaign results and analytics with clients.

  • Help authors create consistent branding as needed.

  • Assist the digital team with influencer outreach and digital marketing as needed.

  • Mac basic skills


Salary: $55,000-$65,000 year, plus quarterly performance bonuses and year-end profit sharing
