Department OverviewMotorola Solutions is a world leader in the field of mobile communications systems, with an impressive heritage of technological innovations and a global base of installed systems. The Motorola Solutions Engineering Practice team is looking for a Propagation and Coverage subject matter expert. This role is within the Subject Matter Experts team, specializing in RF Coverage. The Coverage Subject Matter Expert will support Motorola Field Engineering Teams across North America.
Our team provides expertise supporting the design and implementation of mission-critical digital mobile communication systems for Government & Public Safety Communications customers, as well as some large commercial customers. Many of our systems are designed around the APCO Project 25 communications standard.
Job Description
NOTE: Some travel is required for this role. Travel may be required for training or to support deployment resolution of coverage issues.
The Principal Coverage Engineer would interface with Sales, Project Management, System Engineering and Field Engineering personnel working together in a high performance culture, often with demanding cycle times and high customer expectations because we are working on mission critical communication systems. The Coverage Matter Expert will provide guidance on all coverage design and implementation aspects of the project from proposal to award until system acceptance.
This involves:
Requirements guidance of internal tools for coverage propagation studies
Develops and applies methods, theories and research techniques to provide solutions to technical problems.
Providing MSI internal field resources with technical support in all phases of a project
Providing MSI External consultative support to customers/consultants on projects, if required
Interfacing with MSI product teams on various system performance parameters
Developing MSI Coverage Standards and practices and disseminate to the field
Providing guidance and support to Coverage site deployments and testing
Leading MSI Coverage field training activities by developing on-site and recorded training courses, webinars, how to guides
Awareness of current FCC changes that might impact the public safety arena for P25 Land Mobile Radio.
Responsible for mentoring engineers to provide depth of knowledge and experience
Specific Knowledge/Skills:
Excellent communication skills and the ability to present complex topics to nontechnical audiences.
Self motivated and able to maintain focus in a pressured environment
Experience/knowledge in radio communication systems, radio propagation, RF, wireless system design.
Experience in setting up modeling tools to execute and optimize coverage and interference mitigation designs.
Experience / knowledge in troubleshooting RF (Radio Frequency) Sites / noise mitigation challenges on deployed systems and providing guidance to local field teams.
Experience / knowledge in site deployment and installation practices.
Drive Coverage Subject Matter Expert initiatives
Highly Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of RF/Propagation Engineering in the Wireless Communications field
Target Base Salary Range: $120,000 - $180,000 USD
