This role will be critical in helping the organization reach its strategic production engineering goals. In collaboration with other technology leaders, this leader will ensure smooth execution and on-time delivery of all business-critical roadmap initiatives.  We are looking for a talented, high-energy and collaborative DevOps engineer to design and lead the techincal direction of skilled team of professionals in 24x7x365 technical engineering and escalations for production grade robotic systems running on Kubernetes with both cloud and bare metal hosts.  This engineer will use their experience with process automation and tools, to implement scalable systems deployed via Infrastructure as code to solve complex problems and provide solutions via Architecture, Hands-on development, and Proof-of-concepts.


Responsibilities: 

  • Lead the evaluation, selection, and implementation and/or build out of tools to support the automation of all development, testing, and deployment processes.
  • Train, coach, and mentor the DevOps Engineers to be focused on automation, service oriented, and effective.
  • In collaboration with the Engineering teams, evaluate compute hardware opportunities to match new and updated robotic solution design to ensure on-time delivery of roadmap initiatives. 
  • Integrate the development of best practices, standards, procedures, and quality objectives including metrics for assessing progress.
  • Participate in and improve on-call rotation to resolve critical customer issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Up to 15% travel.

Technical focus: 

  • Champion system automation, Docker, Kubernetes, and baremetal solutions, with Terraform, Juniper networking, and TCP/IP expertise.
  • Document best practices, emphasizing Kubernetes, Terraform and networking.
  • Design, deploy, and optimize Kubernetes clusters on baremetal using Terraform and Juniper networking configurations.
  • Ensure robust TCP/IP configurations to enhance network performance.
  • Serve as a DevOps subject matter expert, addressing infrastructure, scalability, and security, with a focus on Kubernetes.
  • Troubleshoot code and improve performance, particularly in Kubernetes and Terraform settings.
  • Lead global deployments, giving special attention to Kubernetes, Terraform, Juniper networking, and TCP/IP.
  • Collaborate on security enhancements for Kubernetes, Terraform, Juniper networking, and TCP/IP.
  • Act as a liaison, facilitate workshops, and present solutions for Kubernetes, Terraform, and Juniper networking.
  • Specialize in cloud-based DevOps, emphasizing Kubernetes, Terraform, Juniper networking, and TCP/IP.

Operations focus:

  • A strong ability to effectively manage and utilize log data, integrating it seamlessly with logging and metric tools like Elasticsearch, Logstash, and Kibana.
  • Demonstrated expertise in enhancing performance, optimizing systems, and analyzing and addressing bottlenecks.
  • Ability to analyze compute hardware to ensure efficient, effective and economic design with emphasis toward highly available customer systems.
  • Proficiency in working with container-based environments, which includes Docker Containers and Kubernetes.
  • A deep grasp of Kubernetes architecture and its inner workings.
  • Extensive technical knowledge and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
  • A solid understanding of cloud platforms, such as AWS and Google Cloud.
  • Robust familiarity with baremetal systems, including Dell, HP, and/or Superlogic.
  • In-depth knowledge and expertise in delivering DevOps solutions and formulating effective strategies.
  • Proficient scripting skills in languages like Python and Bash.
  • A solid grasp of networking principles, encompassing TCP/IP, UDP, VPNs, CIDR, subnets, and certificates.
  • Strong competence in orchestration tools, with a specific emphasis on Kubernetes.
  • Experience with automated deployment, continuous integration, and release engineering tools, for instance, Jenkins.
  • Proficiency in utilizing infrastructure automation tools, such as Terraform and Ansible.
  • A sound understanding of design patterns and the ability to apply refactoring concepts effectively.
  • Fluency in English, both in written and verbal communication.

Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.  Masters in technology or business helpful.
