Principal Software Engineer (Backend/Full Stack)

Location: Krakow, Poland (Hybrid)

Position Overview

Autodesk is expanding its engineering presence in Krakow and is looking for a Principal Software Engineer (Backend/Full Stack) to help shape the future of our Smart Factory and Facility Operations platforms. While the target solutions are focused on Go (Golang) and React/JavaScript/TypeScript, we are open to candidates with experience in other technology stacks as well.

You will work across teams and disciplines to build our next-generation cloud web application platform – Tandem – that connects data and workflows across Industry 4.0, Industrial IoT (IIoT), Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and Digital Twin solutions.

This is a high-impact technical leadership (tech lead) role focused on contributing to platform strategy and architecture (partnering with experienced Autodesk senior architects) and delivering scalable cloud-native services that support mission-critical customer workflows.

This is a unique opportunity to influence technical direction, solve complex software engineering challenges, and mentor engineers while remaining hands-on with design and development.

Join us in building software for people who design and make the world around us. From advanced manufacturing, sustainable buildings and resilient infrastructure to media experiences, Autodesk empowers innovators to solve complex challenges through technology.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build scalable, resilient, and secure cloud-native services/web applications that support high-volume production workloads – with a focus on backend services while contributing to frontend development when needed.
  • Contribute to the technical vision and architecture for critical platform services.
  • Contribute hands-on to software development across full-stack technologies with a focus on Go/C++ backends and React frontends (flexibly adapting to other technologies where appropriate)
  • Establish engineering standards, architectural patterns, and best practices that improve platform quality, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Collaborate with Product Management, Architecture, and Engineering leaders to align technical investments with business objectives.
  • Guide teams through complex technical challenges, balancing long-term architecture with near-term delivery goals.
  • Lead design reviews, provide technical mentorship
  • Participate in code reviews, troubleshooting, and performance optimization
  • Champion operational excellence through observability, automation, reliability engineering, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Participate in Agile planning and execution activities while helping teams continuously improve delivery practices.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience designing, building, and operating large-scale commercial software systems.
  • Experience designing distributed systems, microservices, cloud-native web applications and APIs
  • Proven experience leading the architecture and delivery of complex software platform initiatives spanning multiple teams
  • Expertise in software engineering, with strong proficiency in one or more modern programming languages such as Go (Golang), C++, JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, C#, Python, Java or similar (experience with Go and C++ is particularly valued)
  • Experience with any modern cloud platform such as AWS (preferred) or Azure.
  • Strong understanding of data architecture and database technologies.
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and modern software delivery practices.
  • Strong understanding of system design, scalability, reliability, security, and performance optimization.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with industrial and manufacturing domains (design, simulation, digital twin, operations), Smart Factory/Industry 4.0 solutions, Industrial IoT (IIoT), facility operations, asset management, AEC etc.
  • Experience with WebGL, 3D visualization technologies and micro-frontends.
  • Experience building multi-tenant SaaS platforms.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, containerized workloads, and cloud observability practices.
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
