About the Role
As a Principal, Strategy & Planning at Uber Freight, you will work a dynamic team of engineers in designing, optimizing, and managing transportation networks. Your leadership and expertise will help us drive efficiency, cost-saving initiatives, and innovative solutions to improve our operations and exceed customer expectations.
In this role, you will perform Network design, package level data analysis, work on cost-saving projects, and network optimization. With a background in transportation and logistics, particularly in the parcel industry, you will be responsible for ensuring high performance, meeting operational and financial goals, and continuously improving operational processes. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, guide your engineers/business intelligence/data scientists, and drive the execution of high-impact solutions.
What the Candidate Will Do
- Network Design & Optimization: Design and optimize transportation networks to meet customer requirements and enhance logistics efficiency, focusing on cost-saving opportunities and operational improvements.
- Supply Chain Modeling: Build and execute Last Mile network modeling, providing the business justifications for allocation of Data Science/AI resources for automation.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams to integrate logistics solutions, ensuring comprehensive training and alignment with organizational goals.
- Data Analysis & Performance Monitoring: Conduct data analysis to identify cost-saving projects and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure continuous improvement across all logistics operations.
- Process Documentation & Testing: Develop and implement time estimates for process documentation, conversions, and testing, ensuring successful deployment of new processes as we onboard more shippers and carriers.
- Benchmarking & Best Practices: Benchmark Logistics industry techniques, tools, and projects, adopting best practices to drive innovation and maintain operational excellence within the team.
- Reporting & Stakeholder Communication: Prepare and present detailed reports to senior management and stakeholders, ensuring effective resource allocation and supporting sustainability and professional growth.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent related work/military experience in Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of engineering and managerial experience in the transportation and logistics industry, with a focus on network design and cost optimization principles.
- Proven expertise in transportation strategy development and cost optimization, with a solid foundation in data analysis and project management.
- Proficiency in tools such as SQL, Python, advanced Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Appian, Alteryx, and Supply Chain Guru.
- Expertise in comparative analysis, predictive modeling, and optimization techniques.
- Certification or practical experience in Lean, Six Sigma, and process improvement methodologies (e.g., DMAIC, value stream mapping, 5S, root cause analysis).
- Strong leadership and team development abilities, with experience guiding teams through complex projects and influencing decision-making at all levels.
- Outstanding problem-solving skills and the ability to learn new software quickly, delivering actionable insights for continuous improvement.

US based employees may also be eligible for a performance or sales incentive bonus program, participation in Uber Freight equity awards, and other types of compensation depending upon the role.
Illinois: The target base salary for this position is $162,250 - $197,850
