Lead enterprise-level quality improvements across Global Propulsion Systems by identifying systemic failure modes, driving root-cause analysis and preventive actions, standardizing Quality Chain processes (PFMEA, PRD, GRA), coaching teams, leading Safety Field Investigations, and improving First Time Quality. Hybrid role with ~15-20% domestic and international travel.
Description
At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We're turning today's impossible into tomorrow's standard -from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.
Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.
The Role:
The primary responsibility of the Process Engineer - Quality Operational Excellence is to get the process right by serving as a key enterprise leader in driving systemic quality improvement across Global Propulsion Systems. This role is responsible for identifying cross-functional failure modes, shaping prevention strategies, and influencing execution to eliminate repeat defects and improve customer outcomes. Work is performed in a highly collaborative, team-based environment with frequent interaction with Manufacturing Engineering, Product Engineering, Plant Engineering, OEMs, and other manufacturing and quality engineers to successfully launch new products. You will be working in a centralized engineering center and plant environment where a considerable amount of creativity and initiative is exercised as well as a high level of independent judgment.
The position plays a critical role in strengthening GM's Quality Chain Framework-including PFMEA, Prevent Repeat Defect (PRD), Lessons Learned, and Global Read Across (GRA)-while providing technical leadership for Safety Field Investigations (SFI) related to manufacturing-controllable issues. The role also drives quality excellence by improving First Time Quality (FTQ), resolving RPLS/1 issues, and leading key quality activities such as PPAP, DFMEA-to-PFMEA linkage (DPA), and error-proofing plan development, all in alignment with GPDP timing.
This is a hybrid role based at the Global Technical Center, with opportunities to travel to local GM manufacturing sites for cross-functional collaboration.
If you are passionate about doing things right, committed to driving Propulsion Systems quality better, and comfortable engaging and communicating with leadership teams, this is your opportunity to build a rewarding career.
