Job Description
As an Product Owner for Messaging, you will deliver key features on the Messaging roadmap and partner with business stakeholders to ensure it align with their broader value stream goals. You will also collaborate with product owners and technical leads across the company to ensure your features for our customers, front-line agents, and the Discover Virtual Assistant (DVA) are designed and executed to promote scale, agility, and resilience.
This is a highly visible role responsible for enhancing and managing the platform and capabilities that Discover’s digital servicing channels rely on each and everyday. Your end users will be both our customers and front-line agents that service our customers in these channels. You will leverage and become an expert in our 3rd party vendor capabilities, internal API capabilities, automation and natural language technologies, and industry best practices to construct features and achieve our goals of having ‘Digital Everywhere’.
Key member of the business who is the conduit to technology through the Agile team. Responsible for writing user stories that align to the product features. Ensures the pipeline (backlog) stays full and is prioritized. Internally focused on the Agile team and implementation. Reviews and accepts user stories. Partners with Product Managers to prepare features and user stories for continual planning cycles.
- Design and execute new digital capabilities, as well as enhancing existing ones, to scale our Messaging and Apple Business Chat channels with the customer and agent experience top of mind
- Socialize and convey the benefits of Messaging, Apple Business Chat, and an AI-driven Virtual Assistant to customers, the company, and members of leadership by obtaining buy-in and alignment on path forward
- Develop a comprehensive testing plan for launching new digital capabilities to our customers and front-line agents
- Lead a high-functioning scrum team by planning iterations and sprints, writing and prioritizing user stories to align to product features, managing a robust backlog to ensure minimal development downtime, and accepting user stories within the guidelines and milestones of the product roadmap
- Develops user stories from prioritized features. Leads efforts to attain product vision and objectives. Writes acceptance criteria for user stories. Ensures that user stories meet the Definition of Ready (DoR) and are updated in the system.
- Provides status updates to the business and management.
- Manages and prioritizes sprint backlogs.
- Empowers decisions regarding functionality and priority in the sprint. Approves each user story during the sprint.
- Collaborates with Agile teams to follow through on business priorities and visions.
- Partners with agile team to deliver customer and business value through product features.
- Collaborate with the business stakeholders and their technical teams to understand key processes/requirements for each feature
- Demonstrate thought leadership by being imaginative, flexible, resourceful, using quantitative and qualitative measurement methods, and having high attention to detail
- Promote a risk-aware culture and ensure a thoughtful approach to new functionality that is customer and/or agent facing
- Ensure efficient and effective risk and compliance management practices by adhering to required standards and processes
Minimum Qualifications
At a minimum, here’s what we need from you:
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Technology, Marketing, Engineering, or related field
- 2+ years of experience in Product Owner, Business Analyst, Customer Service and Relationships, IT, or related field
- In lieu of a degree, 4+ years of experience in Product Owner, Business Analyst, Customer Service and Relationships, IT, or related field
Preferred Qualifications

- 2+ years of experience in Product Owner, Business Analyst, Customer Service and Relationships, IT, or related
- SAFe
- 2+ years of experience working with digital customer experience, mobile technology, and innovative consumer solutions, with some exposure to Marketing and Financial services preferred
- Experience working as a Product Owner with in-dept knowledge of Agile processes and principles
- Passion for digital and the advancement of functionality across the organization (Digital Evangelist)
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Strong, proven problem solving skills and ability to translate metrics into solutions and strategies
- Ability to interact with and influence all levels of leadership
- Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate with peers and business partners
