Actuarial Senior Consultant – Long Term Care Experience Studies -ACT0000NJ
Job Summary
An exciting and unique opportunity to help drive innovation as a member of CNA's best-in-class Long Term Care Actuarial team! Our collaborative team of actuaries and data scientists leverages the latest open-source and actuarial software to actively manage one of the largest blocks of Individual and Group Long Term Care insurance. This role will have exposure to multiple levels of leadership and is the ideal position for making an impact across the organization.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with department guidelines:
- Help drive the Long Term Care experience studies, assumption setting and modeling process to support annual loss recognition testing and asset adequacy analysis.
- Monitor experience trends to help drive recommendations for actuarial assumptions and strategic initiatives.
- Utilize the latest technological tools for working with big data, analyzing policyholder experience, setting assumptions and projections. Includes continuing to expand upon the LTC Division’s predictive modeling capabilities for assumption setting purposes.
- Oversight of the LTC Division’s largest code base in R, which executes on the Google Cloud Platform. This data warehouse, which contains detailed historical policyholder experience data, is used for experience studies and other analytical purposes.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to gather insights on business trends, including the Inforce Management, Reserving, Modeling, Operations, Claims, and Finance & Analytics LTC teams.
- Present analysis and findings to peers, multiple levels of senior management, and external stakeholders.
- Manage project teams and provide guidance to less experienced team members.
- Stay up to date on long term care insurance industry trends and the potential impact on the assumption setting process.

- Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.) and Google Cloud Platform.
- Experience using SAS, SQL, Alteryx, R, Python, etc. working with insurance company data.
- Knowledge of Google Cloud Platform, Moody’s AXIS Actuarial software, and Tableau is a plus, but not required.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics or equivalent discipline.
- Typically a minimum of five to seven years of related work experience, preferably in the Long Term Care Insurance or Disability Insurance industry (but not required).
- Attained or nearly attained Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) designation.
