Summary

The Senior Technical Project Manager leads work teams on client and/or internal projects. The individual is expected to be a role model for other work team members and is responsible for on-time and on-budget delivery of client and/or internal projects. The position requires the desire and ability to coach and mentor employees, including formal review and evaluation of project team members and direct reports. The individual participates in defining the technical strategy direction for fulfilling clients’ needs, and to handle all areas of system design and development. Additionally, this individual is expected to participate in business development by expanding SDI’s presence in current clients, as well as finding new project opportunities where possible.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate cross-functional/technical teams through meetings and progress measurement activity which bring projects to completion both on time and within budget
  • Communicate effectively with client management both formally and informally including the development and delivery of periodic status reports
  • Manage complex projects, including defining scope, assigning resources and timelines, and overseeing implementation and change requests
  • Participate in business planning, including the ability to define and participate in the achievement of business objectives
  • Stay abreast of opportunity trends, client requirements, and geographic market demands to provide input to the strategic planning process related to the introduction of new service offerings
  • Effectively network internally and externally to remain knowledgeable about the full range of SDI’s service offerings and communicate them to external audiences
  • Identify and close business opportunities
  • Position SDI as a trusted business advisor to the client, enabling the company to be the preferred provider of consulting services
  • Participate in building sales aides to increase the effectiveness of the sales process
  • Effectively work in a team environment with the sales staff at a level that results in a strong prospecting and closure rate
  • Actively participate in local user groups and professional associations to increase SDI exposure in the community and generate new business opportunities
  • Stay current with effective project management methodologies to ensure a high level of quality
  • Participate in recruiting activities, including selling candidates on the benefits and opportunities at SDI
  • Act as a role model and mentor to direct reports, project team members, and other employees
  • Support and encourage direct reports’ career development, including providing timely and honest performance feedback
  • Align personal goals with the goals and strategy of SDI

Skill Requirements

  • Degree in Computer Science or a related field. Advanced degree and appropriate certifications a (i.e. PMP, Scrum Master, or other project certifications is a plus)
  • Ten or more years of Project Management related experience
  • Proficient in MS Office and MS Project (or similar tools)
  • Strong leadership and team building skills
  • Ability to prioritize, plan, and manage a workload
  • Proven project management skills
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing to customers and coworkers in the English language as required for business needs
  • Familiarity with ITIL concepts
  • Conceptual understanding of IT operations including Data Center, Network Operations, Help Desk and field support
  • Ability to work in the field, both in a management and hands on role
  • Five or more years relevant business support and/or general analysis experience
  • Advanced knowledge of project management methodologies and/or advanced knowledge of multiple technical software delivery life cycles
