Why We're Here:
At Brave Health, we are driven by a deep commitment to transform lives by expanding access to compassionate, high-quality mental health care. By harnessing the power of technology, we break down barriers and bring mental health treatment directly to those who need it most—wherever they are. As a community health-centered organization, we are dedicated to ensuring that no one is left behind. Nearly 1 in 4 people in the U.S. receive healthcare through Medicaid, yet two-thirds of providers don’t accept it. Brave Health is stepping up to close this gap by making mental health care accessible, affordable, and life-changing for all.

Job Overview

Brave Health is seeking an experienced behavioral health partner to accelerate our growth and impact across Illinois. This individual will combine deep knowledge of the behavioral health ecosystem with strong relationship-building and business development capabilities to expand Brave Health’s presence, referral network, and community partnerships.

The ideal candidate brings a unique perspective developed through experience across multiple areas of healthcare—such as clinical care, health plans/payers, risk bearing value based care, provider organizations, and business development—and understands how patients move through the behavioral health system.

More than a traditional sales role, this position requires a credible and well-connected behavioral health professional who can build trusted relationships with providers, health plans, community organizations, and other key stakeholders. This person will serve as a visible representative of Brave Health in the Illinois behavioral health community and play a critical role in establishing Illinois as one of Brave Health’s largest and highest-impact markets.

The role will be based in the greater Chicago area with primary responsibility for Illinois and potential additional responsibility across neighboring markets.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, establish, and foster strong relationships with healthcare providers, and payer orgs, including primary care group practices, specialty physicians, behavioral health organizations, hospital discharge teams, case management groups and other referral partners to increase patient referrals.

  • Serve as the primary contact for partner providers, ensuring consistent engagement, timely follow-up, and resolution of partner needs and concerns.

  • Build trusted, long-term relationships through regular in-person meetings, virtual engagement, community presence, and continuous support.

  • Develop and execute targeted strategies to grow provider and payor partnerships throughout Illinois, including lead generation, relationship development, and personalized engagement plans.

  • Leverage existing knowledge of and relationships within the Illinois healthcare and behavioral health ecosystem to identify strategic opportunities for growth.

  • Analyze territory performance data to optimize outreach efforts and identify high-impact areas for potential growth.

  • Partner with Marketing and Account Management to develop localized campaigns that increase awareness of Brave Health and convert prospective partners into active referral sources.

  • Gather and analyze feedback from partners, patients, and the market to identify emerging trends, opportunities, competitive insights, and barriers to accessing behavioral health care.

  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to refine and align partnership initiatives.

  • Represent Brave Health at industry conferences, community events, payer and provider meetings, and speaking engagements, building awareness of Brave Health and expanding our network of referral and strategic partners.

Qualifications

  • Clinical background in behavioral health or a closely related healthcare field; current or previous clinical licensure such as LCSW, LCPC/LMHC, RN, or comparable credential preferred.

  • 5+ years of progressive experience within healthcare or behavioral health, with meaningful experience working across multiple parts of the healthcare ecosystem.

  • Experience working within or closely alongside a health plan/payer, ideally in behavioral health case management, care management, network management, provider relations, or a related function.

  • Experience working within a healthcare provider organization, with a strong understanding of provider operations, patient access, referrals, and care delivery.

  • Demonstrated success in business development, partnerships, provider relations, sales, or another growth-oriented role with measurable results.

  • Deep understanding of the Illinois behavioral health landscape, including key health plans, provider organizations, community resources, and behavioral health stakeholders.

  • Established professional relationships within the Illinois healthcare or behavioral health community strongly preferred.

  • Ability to build credibility and influence with a wide range of stakeholders, from frontline clinicians and community partners to health plan and health system executives.

  • Strong business acumen with the ability to translate market knowledge and relationships into actionable growth opportunities.

  • Ability to independently develop and execute a territory strategy while partnering effectively with cross-functional teams.

  • Proficiency with CRM systems; Salesforce experience preferred.

  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly throughout Illinois, particularly the greater Chicago market, and periodically within neighboring Midwest markets.

Preferred Experience

We recognize that candidates with every element of this background may be rare. We are particularly interested in individuals who bring a strong combination of:

  • Behavioral health clinical experience

  • Health plan/payer experience

  • Provider organization experience

  • Business development or growth experience

  • Deep relationships and credibility within the Illinois behavioral health community

Candidates who bring several of these experiences—and a demonstrated ability to navigate the Illinois behavioral health ecosystem—are encouraged to apply.
