Job Description

About the Role:

As a Quality Engineer II, you’ll be at the center of driving real improvements—reducing defects, accelerating root cause identification and resolution, and lowering the cost of poor quality.

You’ll work on bus transit technologies: passenger doors, wheelchair lifts and ramps, e-Bus charging systems, and driver protection barriers, along their subsystems and components. Every project will challenge you to think critically, act decisively, and collaborate across disciplines.

At Wabtec Bus Solutions, we look for engineers who are curious, technically sharp, and able to communicate with clarity and impact; we want team players who bring energy, ambition, and a positive mindset to every challenge. If you thrive on making things better and influencing change, this is your opportunity to make an impact that matters and gets recognized.

Who will you be working with?

You’ll collaborate hands-on with manufacturing, customers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, sales, and supply chain, to strengthen processes and resolve issues. You’ll support production on the shop floor, partner with engineering on new product launches, and work with sales and service teams to address customer concerns. You’ll be part of a team that values collaboration, accountability, and helping others succeed while driving measurable improvements.

How will you make a difference?

You’ll lead 8D and DMAIC initiatives, champion APQP/PPAP readiness, facilitate FMEA risk assessments, and resolve quality inventory issues quickly. Your impact will be clear: stronger customer confidence, faster issue closure, and improved reliability.

What do we want to know about you?

Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science or related field (preferred).

Experience: 5+ years in quality engineering within manufacturing environments. 2+ years in customer-facing roles.

Technical Expertise: Customer complaint management, structured problem solving (8D/A3), PFMEA, Control Plans, SPC, MSA, Lean/Six Sigma.

Core Competencies: Accountability, Problem Solving, Collaboration, Communication, Customer Focus, Organization, Adaptability.

What will your typical day look like?

  • Log and track customer complaints; lead containment actions, root cause analysis, and communicate resolutions to customers.
  • Conduct process audits and Gemba walks to identify issues early; approve reworks and support MRB/NCMR (Material Review Board/Non Conformance Management) activities for timely disposition.
  • Lead structured problem-solving using 8D and DMAIC; drive corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Facilitate PFMEA sessions and ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and transit standards.
  • Track APQP/PPAP deliverables for new product launches and validate process readiness.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to resolve supplier quality issues and drive corrective actions.
  • Use ERP/MES and QMS platforms to manage data; prepare and review quality reports, COPQ trends, and systemic issues.

What about the physical demands of the job?

  • Office-based with shop floor presence.
  • Stand, walk, and navigate facilities
  • Computer use for extended periods.
  • Occasionally lift/move up to 25 lbs.
  • Travel up to 10% to customers and manufacturing sites
  • Ability to assist in building, testing, and inspecting electro-mechanical systems.

You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.

Relocation assistance may be provided if eligibility requirements are met. Employment requires legal authorization to work in the U.S. and successful completion of applicable screenings.
