About the Role:

As a Regional Senior Automation Engineer (SAE), you will provide leadership, strategic direction, and technical support to our maintenance teams and automation engineers at logistics facilities nationwide. This role is responsible for driving process improvements, standardization, efficiency, and maximizing uptime with automated operations across the network. The Regional SAE will act as a subject matter expert in automation and controls engineering, ensuring the consistent implementation of best practices and innovative solutions. You will support both new site launches and ongoing maintenance programs, ensuring best-in-class performance of control systems and automation technologies. The ideal candidate is a technical leader with a strong problem-solving mindset and a passion for driving operational excellence through automation.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing technical leadership for automation and controls engineering across multiple locations, ensuring consistent application of best practices
  • Developing and implementing standard operating procedures for control systems to optimize performance and minimize downtime
  • Auditing existing automation and control systems and related processes, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing solutions to close performance gaps and increase equipment reliability
  • Collaborating with regional and network-wide operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to drive standardization in control system strategies, predictive maintenance programs, and process improvements
  • Leading root cause analysis and problem-solving initiatives to enhance system reliability and efficiency
  • Providing training, mentorship, and support to site-based automation engineers and maintenance teams
  • Overseeing the launch and commissioning of automation systems at new sites, including installation, validation, and optimization of control systems
  • Ensuring compliance with safety protocols and drive a culture of continuous improvement in equipment and process safety
  • Developing/optimizing key performance indicators (KPIs) and monitoring system performance, making data-driven recommendations for improvement
  • Assisting with onboarding and training of new automation engineers to ensure team proficiency and consistency
  • Traveling 70-90% to provide on-site support, audits, and training at facilities nationwide

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, or related field) or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of experience in electrical/controls engineering, automation, or maintenance
  • 2+ years of experience in a leadership, supervisory, or mentorship role
  • Strong background in automation systems, PLCs, VFDs, robotic systems, and industrial control networks
  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and implement solutions for complex control system issues
  • Experience in developing and implementing reliability programs, predictive maintenance strategies, and process improvements
  • Strong problem-solving skills with experience in root cause analysis and process optimization
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to rent a vehicle for travel purposes

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in controls engineering, automation, and reliability programs
  • Advanced proficiency in PLC programming, including Allen Bradley and Siemens control systems
  • Experience in electrical design engineering and automation system integration
  • Familiarity with statistical process control and advanced problem-solving methodologies
  • Strong project management skills with experience in leading cross-functional teams
  • Completion of an applicable technical training program
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and industrial data analysis tools

The compensation that will be offered to the successful candidate will depend on factors such as whether the position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement, the geographic area in which the work will be performed, market pay rates in that area, and the candidate’s experience and qualifications.


The company will not pay less than minimum wage for this role.


The compensation for the position is: $136,000.00 - $160,000.00
