Job Description:

The Sales and Use Transformation Tax Managing Director will play a key leadership role in modernizing the practice’s operating model. As the practice scales, particularly through the expansion of an offshore delivery team in India, this role will lead the transition to a standardized, automated, and technology-enabled compliance model. The Director will focus on improving efficiency, enhancing margins, and enabling sustainable, scalable growth while maintaining quality and consistency.

This role requires a leader with deep sales and use tax compliance knowledge, strong tax technology expertise, and proven experience driving operational transformation.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the transformation of the Sales and Use Tax Compliance practice to a standardized, technology-enabled operating model
  • Design and implement scalable compliance delivery approaches that support growth without proportional increases in cost or headcount
  • Evaluate existing compliance processes, workflows, and tools, and identify opportunities for automation, standardization, and efficiency improvements
  • Drive adoption of new technologies, processes, and delivery models in partnership with compliance leadership and U.S. and offshore delivery teams
  • Serve as a technical and strategic resource for sales and use tax compliance, with a focus on how services are delivered rather than day-to-day return preparation or filings
  • Partner with leadership to integrate and optimize an onshore/offshore delivery model, with emphasis on operational rigor, quality, and consistency
  • Lead change management efforts, including communication, training, and process adoption across geographically distributed teams
  • Support market-facing activities by strengthening client relationships, enhancing the client experience through improved delivery models, and helping expand existing accounts
  • Provide thought leadership on compliance modernization, technology enablement, and operational best practices
  • Mentor and influence teams through transformation initiatives, fostering a culture of continuous improvement

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Accounting, Finance, preferred
  • Relevant professional certification required (CPA, JD, LLM, CMI, EA)
  • Deep knowledge of sales and use tax compliance, with the ability to act as a technical and strategic advisor
  • Demonstrated experience leading the transformation of sales and use tax compliance operations through technology, automation, and standardized processes
  • Proven success designing and implementing scalable, technology-enabled compliance models that improve efficiency and margins
  • Experience partnering with senior compliance leadership and delivery teams to drive operational change
  • Experience working with and influencing large, geographically distributed teams, including offshore delivery models
  • Strong change management and leadership skills, with the ability to guide teams through transformation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical and operational concepts into clear, actionable guidance for leadership, delivery teams, and clients
  • Strong leadership presence and ability to build trust with internal stakeholders and clients
