Hybrid for NYC-area candidates (2 days per week in the office); fully remote for non-NYC candidates (US).
The RoleWe're hiring our first dedicated Scrum Master to own the delivery cadence across four teams. You'll establish a consistent, healthy “Scrum at Chalice” - facilitating the teams, protecting their focus, and coaching the organization toward better delivery. You’ll act as a facilitator, not a manager: you own how the teams deliver, not what they build.
What You'll DoFacilitate the ceremonies: run daily standups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, and sprint reviews across the three Scrum teams, and own retrospectives for all four. You schedule and safeguard each event and keep it in its allocated timebox.
Close and open sprints: administer sprint close/open in Jira, roll over unfinished work, and set up clean sprints (As the PO accepts the work and sets the next goal).
Run Forward Deployed as Kanban: manage continuous flow with WIP limits, queue replenishment, and onshore-offshore timing rather than sprints.
Remove impediments: actively clear within-team blockers; escalate cross-team dependencies to the Technical Project Manager.
Track team health and flow: monitor velocity, cycle time, carryover, and WIP to find where teams are lagging, and watch team morale and sustainability.
Coach and standardize: coach teams and Product Owners on agile practice and drive continuous improvement, so “Scrum at Chalice” means the same thing on every team.
Shield the teams: protect developers from mid-sprint scope churn and internal-request noise.
Support backlog hygiene: facilitate effective grooming so backlogs stay healthy (the Product Owner owns content and priority).
Product Owners own backlog content, priority, and roadmap; you’ll own the delivery engine that turns it into shipped increments.
The Technical Project Manager owns cross-team coordination and dependencies; you escalate cross-team blockers to them and keep team-level flow healthy.
The Tech Lead within the Platform team, along with engineering leadership, owns architecture and technical direction; you keep the teams able to execute against it.
3 years as a Scrum Master facilitating multiple delivery teams concurrently.
Fluency in both Scrum and Kanban.
Strong leadership and facilitation: coaching, conflict resolution, and influence without authority.
Comfort in a technical engineering environment (software, SRE/DevOps, data, and ML/data-science teams) — you don't need to code, but you should be at ease with technical work.
A metrics-driven approach to team health and continuous improvement, with hands-on Jira experience.
Bonus: fast-scaling startup experience, and programmatic advertising / ad-tech exposure.
Preferred, not required: Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM I/II), or equivalent. We weight demonstrated experience over credentials.
