About the role

We are seeking a detail-oriented Senior Accountant with life and annuity insurance industry experience and strong knowledge of Long-Duration Targeted Improvements (LDTI) to support accounting, financial reporting, and close activities. This role is responsible for preparing and analyzing journal entries, reconciliations, disclosures, and reporting packages under U.S. GAAP, with exposure to statutory accounting. The ideal candidate will partner effectively with actuarial, finance, and various other teams.


What you'll do

  • Prepare and record journal entries associated with life insurance and annuity products in accordance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
  • Assist with accounting and reporting requirements associated with insurance accounting standards
  • and emerging guidance, including long-duration contract accounting where applicable.
  • Support U.S. GAAP financial reporting, including preparation of footnotes, roll forwards, and management reporting packages.
  • Record and reconcile actuarially produced balances, including reserves, deferred acquisition costs
  • (DAC), deferred profit liabilities (DPL), policyholder liabilities, and other insurance-related accounts as applicable.
  • Partner with actuarial, FP&A and other various teams to validate source data, analyze reserve movements, and investigate period-over-period variances.
  • Support statutory accounting and reporting requirements, including preparation of schedules, analysis, and documentation for internal and external reporting.
  • Perform flux and trend analysis on balances and results and communicate key drivers to management.
  • Maintain and improve internal controls, process documentation, and accounting support for audits and regulatory examinations.
  • Collaborate across finance, actuarial, FP&A, and operations to implement process improvements and strengthen reporting efficiency and data quality.
  • Support special projects, accounting policy research, and implementation of new reporting or system enhancements. Describe the specific responsibilities and job functions of the role

Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • Understanding of life insurance and/or annuity products and reserves
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP; familiarity with statutory accounting principles and insurance reporting is strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with long-duration contract accounting and disclosures.
  • Experience supporting close, financial reporting, account reconciliations, and variance analysis in a regulated financial services environment. 

Skills/Competencies

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and documentation skills with close attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated persistency and ability to deliver results under pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal communication and proofreading skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with general ledger and reporting systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work independently while collaborating effectively across teams.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve processes, controls, and reporting quality.
