We're looking for a Pet Actuarial Lead to help shape the pricing strategy behind one of the most innovative insurance products on the market. You'll sit at the center of Lemonade's pet insurance business, partnering closely with Data Science, Underwriting, and Finance to drive growth, accuracy, and fairness in how we price and expand. This role lives within our Actuarial team and carries real ownership from day one.

We believe three things matter for every role at Lemonade: drive to push through challenges, efficiency that keeps standards high while moving fast, and adaptability that lets you pivot with data and AI insights. These aren't buzzwords, they're how we actually work.

Our AI-first approach isn't just a tagline either. We're building the future of insurance with AI at the center, and we need people who are genuinely excited to learn and grow alongside these tools.

In this role you’ll

  • Own state rating plans and rate indications for Lemonade's pet product, from monitoring through execution

  • Lead the development and integration of predictive modeling projects in close partnership with the Data Science team

  • Build and maintain machine learning rating models that directly influence pricing accuracy and customer outcomes

  • Develop pricing strategies for product expansion into new states, balancing growth goals with actuarial rigor

  • Contribute to the design of internal pricing software that supports real-time decision making at scale

  • Prepare rate filing support for new machine learning models, keeping Lemonade compliant and ahead of the curve

  • Recommend pricing and underwriting actions based on ongoing performance monitoring and competitive analysis

  • Grow and develop a team of high-performing analysts, setting a high bar while giving people room to do great work

What you'll need

  • 7+ years of Health or Pet Health actuarial experience; FSA required

  • 2+ years managing and developing a team

  • B.S. in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field

  • Proficiency in R or Python, plus SQL for database querying

  • Working knowledge of predictive modeling approaches, including GLMs, decision trees, gradient boosting machines, random forests, and clustering

  • Comfort operating independently in a remote environment while staying tightly connected with cross-functional partners

  • Genuine curiosity about AI and a commitment to growing alongside the tools reshaping how we work

*Please note that we are unable to sponsor applicants for work visas.

Unfortunately, we cannot consider applicants from these states: Alaska, California, Colorado, Montana, Hawaii, New Mexico and Puerto Rico.

Lemonade's US base salary range for this full-time position is $175,000 - $200,000 plus equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Our competitive total rewards package includes comprehensive health & wellness coverage, equity, a 401(k) plan with employer match, 20 paid vacation days, and parental leave. Speak to your recruiter to hear more about the specific salary range for your preferred location and our total rewards package.
