The Senior Advanced Manufacturing Engineer – Automation is responsible for developing and implementing sustainable automation solutions that optimize cost, capital investment, and overall system performance. Leveraging strong engineering expertise and creativity, this individual will conceptualize, develop, and propose innovative automation concepts within a collaborative environment. In this role, the engineer will drive the design and implementation of advanced automation systems, leveraging creative engineering solutions to enhance assembly equipment functionality and optimize manufacturing processes. Additionally, the Automation Engineer will stay informed on emerging manufacturing technologies and industry trends, driving the implementation of best-in-class automation solutions across global manufacturing facilities.
As a Senior Advanced Manufacturing Engineer You Will:
Monitor industry trends and technology advancements to implement value driven solutions advancing technology from development environments through manufacturing pilots and into production.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams to develop comprehensive and innovative solutions to complex automation challenges.
Work with external system integrators to conceptualize, develop, and present initial automation design concepts and strategies.
Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and cross-training to advanced manufacturing engineering teams and plant personnel.
Utilize computer modeling and simulation tools to evaluate, predict, and improve automation system performance.
Lead and coordinate design reviews with Copeland and key suppliers in a collaborative team environment, evaluating proposed system designs for functionality, performance, and manufacturability.
Design, develop, and implement complete automated system solutions that optimize cost, capital investment, and overall system performance.
Ensure all production equipment concepts comply with applicable safety regulations, codes, and industry standards.
Apply lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies to the design and implementation of automation systems.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline preferred, including Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering; or a minimum of 10 years of relevant manufacturing experience in lieu of a degree.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
Proficiency with 2D and 3D CAD software such as AutoCAD, NX, or equivalent design platforms.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a demonstrated capacity for innovative and creative thinking in solving complex technical challenges.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and engineering documentation.
Experience utilizing data-driven decision-making methodologies to support engineering and manufacturing improvements.
Demonstrated digital proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams and facilitate knowledge sharing.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; sponsorship for employment visa status is not available for this position.
Travel up to 25% primarily domestic (US & Mexico).
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
Demonstrated ability to identify, analyze, and resolve complex automation system design challenges.
Experience with high-speed automated manufacturing processes, including high-speed vision-guided systems.
Knowledge of designing and implementing in-line non-conforming part detection and sorting systems.
Hands-on experience with controls engineering, including PLC, HMI, VFD, and servo drive programming.
Experience working with industrial robotics such as 6-axis, SCARA, and delta-style robotic systems.
Understanding of industrial communication and networking systems, including Ethernet/IP protocols.
Familiarity with vibratory flex-feeder and bowl-feeder systems used in automated manufacturing applications.
Strong collaboration and communication skills with the ability to effectively engage across multiple levels of the organization.
Proven knowledge and application of Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably within automation or advanced manufacturing operations.
Onsite Work Arrangement:
This role is based fully onsite, and not eligible for hybrid or remote work opportunities.
