Position Summary

The Senior Cloud Architect serves as the technical architecture lead responsible for designing, implementing, and evolving secure, scalable, resilient cloud platform solutions that enable enterprise applications, shared platform services, and enterprise data capabilities. Working within established enterprise architecture principles and cloud strategy, this role translates architectural direction into practical implementation patterns, engineering standards, reference architectures, and reusable platform capabilities.

The Senior Cloud Architect partners closely with Enterprise Architecture, Domain Architecture, Platform Engineering, Platform Operations, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Security, Delivery teams, and technology stakeholders to modernize cloud platforms, improve operational maturity, establish automation, and ensure consistent implementation of cloud engineering standards across the enterprise. Unlike strategic architecture leadership roles, this position focuses on operationalizing enterprise architecture through hands-on technical leadership, engineering collaboration, platform modernization, and implementation guidance while continuously improving reliability, scalability, security, automation, and operational excellence across assigned cloud platform domains.

Compensation 

This role is an exempt position with a Targeted Salary Range of $124,139.00 to $181,553.06 annually.

Compensation at Guild is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to local and federal minimum wage requirements, education, level of experience, and applicant’s geographical location.

Essential Functions

  • Cloud Platform Architecture
    • Design secure, scalable, resilient, and highly available cloud platform architectures aligned with enterprise architecture principles, security standards, and operational objectives.
    • Translate enterprise architecture strategies into practical solution designs, reference architectures, reusable implementation patterns, and engineering standards.
    • Develop technical architectures that support cloud platform modernization, operational excellence, and long-term maintainability.
    • Participate in architecture reviews and provide technical guidance to ensure solutions align with established architectural standards.
  • Platform Engineering & Modernization
    • Partner with engineering teams to modernize cloud platform capabilities and improve operational maturity across assigned platform domains
    • Design reusable cloud platform services, implementation patterns, and engineering frameworks that accelerate delivery while reducing operational complexity.
    • Evaluate cloud platform services, technologies, and engineering approaches to improve scalability, resiliency, security, automation, and cost optimization.
    • Support cloud migration and modernization initiatives by developing implementation approaches that minimize risk and improve operational outcomes.
  • Automation & DevSecOps
    • Design and promote Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Configuration as Code, Pipeline as Code, and Policy as Code practices across cloud platforms.
    • Establish reusable deployment templates, automation frameworks, and CI/CD implementation standards that improve engineering consistency and delivery quality.
    • Partner with engineering teams to improve automation, deployment reliability, configuration management, and operational efficiency.
  • Security, Governance & Operational Excellence
    • Ensure cloud platform implementations align with enterprise governance, security, regulatory, compliance, and operational standards.
    • Incorporate identity management, networking, resiliency, disaster recovery, observability, monitoring, logging, and operational readiness into cloud platform designs.
    • Identify implementation risks and recommend mitigation strategies to improve platform reliability, security, and supportability.
    • Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture, Security, Infrastructure, and Engineering teams to implement approved technology standards and architectural guardrails.
  • Engineering Leadership
    • Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance throughout solution design, implementation, deployment, and operational support.
    • Mentor engineers and technical teams on cloud architecture patterns, platform engineering practices, automation, and cloud-native design principles.
    • Partner with technical leaders to solve complex platform challenges and improve engineering effectiveness.
    • Promote knowledge sharing through architecture documentation, technical standards, design patterns, and best practices.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Partner with Enterprise Architecture, Domain Architecture, Platform Engineering, Platform Operations, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Security, and Delivery teams to ensure successful implementation of enterprise cloud platforms.
    • Contribute to technology evaluations, proof-of-concept initiatives, architecture reviews, and platform improvement efforts.
    • Document architectural decisions, implementation patterns, technical standards, and operational guidance for engineering teams.
    • Participate in project planning by providing architectural guidance, technical estimates, implementation recommendations, and risk assessments.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree directly related to the position or equivalent, preferred
  • Minimum Five Years of Experience in cloud architecture and / or development.
  • Required Experience
    • Minimum five years of experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise cloud platforms and cloud-native solutions.
    • Experience architecting cloud solutions using Microsoft Azure or another enterprise public cloud provider.
    • Experience designing secure, scalable, highly available cloud architectures supporting enterprise workloads.
    • Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD pipelines, automation frameworks, and cloud platform engineering practices.
    • Experience designing cloud security, identity, networking, resiliency, monitoring, logging, and disaster recovery capabilities.
    • Experience evaluating cloud technologies and recommending implementation approaches that improve operational maturity and engineering efficiency.
    • Experience partnering with engineering teams to modernize cloud platforms and establish reusable engineering standards.
    • Experience with source control systems, Git-based workflows, and modern software development lifecycle practices.
    • Experience working within Agile delivery environments utilizing tools such as GitLab, GitHub, Azure DevOps, Jira, Confluence, or similar collaboration platforms.
    • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision-making skills across complex technical environments.
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate architectural concepts effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Preferred Experience
    • Experience supporting one or more enterprise cloud platform domains, including:

    • Experience with cloud-native technologies and services applicable to assigned platform domains, including application hosting, container platforms, APIs, messaging, data integration, analytics, streaming, storage, governance, observability, automation, and platform engineering capabilities.

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented; ability to work in a fast-paced, metrics-driven environment

Requirements

Physical: Work is primarily sedentary; mobility in an office setting.

Manual Dexterity: Ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.

Audio/Visual: Regularly required to accurately perceive, distinguish and interpret information received visually and through audio; e.g., words, numbers and other data broadcasted aloud/viewed on a screen, as well as print and other media.

Environmental: Office environment – moderate noise, no substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions.

Travel: 5-10%

Mental: Learn new tasks, remember processes, maintain focus, complete tasks independently, and make timely decisions in the context of a workflow.

Schedules: Work is primarily performed during the business week, Monday - Friday
