The Role

This role combines hands-on data engineering with client-facing data governance advisory work. The focus is on building modern Azure-based data platforms while establishing strong governance foundations, including metadata management, data quality, and Master Data Management (MDM). The ideal candidate is comfortable both delivering engineering solutions and guiding clients on governance best practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines using Azure services (Data Factory, Synapse Pipelines, Databricks)
  • Implement data transformations and processing using Python, SQL, and Spark
  • Build and support data warehouse or lakehouse solutions in Azure Synapse or Microsoft Fabric
  • Lead data governance implementation using Microsoft Purview, including data cataloging, classification, lineage, and access policies
  • Support and advise clients on data governance frameworks, operating models, and best practices
  • Design and integrate Master Data Management (MDM) concepts, including reference data, golden records, and data ownership models
  • Partner with analytics, BI, and business stakeholders to deliver trusted, well-governed datasets
  • Monitor, optimize, and support data pipelines for performance, reliability, and cost

Required Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or related roles
  • Strong hands-on experience with Azure data services (Databricks, Synapse, Data Factory, ADLS)
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Purview for data governance and metadata management
  • Solid understanding of Master Data Management (MDM) concepts and data domain modeling
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL
  • Strong knowledge of ETL/ELT patterns and data modeling
  • Experience working directly with clients or business stakeholders in an advisory or consulting capacity

Nice to Have

  • Experience with PySpark or Spark SQL
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric
  • Experience defining data governance operating models or data ownership frameworks
  • Background working with a Microsoft systems integrator or consulting firm
  • Microsoft certifications (Fabric, Data Engineering, or Data Governance)
