Zayo is seeking a Senior Data Product Engineer to play a pivotal role in ensuring the effective management and utilization of data assets within Zayo. Responsibilities include serving as a subject matter expert in metadata and lineage, facilitating data democratization initiatives, overseeing data governance compliance, and leading data transformation efforts. The Senior Data Product Engineer role requires a blend of technical expertise in areas such as data engineering and cloud platforms, along with strong communication skills to collaborate with stakeholders across various teams. The Senior Data Product Engineer plays a crucial role in driving data-driven decision-making and innovation, ultimately contributing to the organization's success in leveraging its data assets effectively. Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities:
1. Data Subject Matter Expertise (SME):

  • Manage Metadata and Lineage: Ensure comprehensive documentation of data sources and their lineage to enhance transparency and traceability.

  • Critical Data Curation: Curate and maintain critical datasets to ensure accuracy, relevance, and accessibility for stakeholders.

  • Project Retrospective: Conduct post-project analyses to identify lessons learned and best practices for future improvements.

  • Consultations: Provide expert guidance and support to teams across the organization on data-related matters.

2. Data Democratization:

  • Usage Analysis: Analyze data usage patterns to identify opportunities for improvement and optimization.

  • Data Product Development Facilitation: Collaborate with teams to facilitate the development of data products that meet business objectives.

  • Documentation Assessment: Evaluate and enhance documentation standards to ensure clarity and usefulness for end-users.

  • Technical & Business Metadata Assessment: Assess technical and business metadata to ensure alignment with organizational goals and standards.

3. Data Governance:

  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to data governance policies, regulations, and industry standards.

  • Policy: Develop and implement data governance policies and procedures to mitigate risks and ensure data integrity.

  • Access: Advisor for data access permissions and controls to protect sensitive information and maintain privacy.

  • Quality: Design and recommend quality assurance processes to maintain high standards of data accuracy and reliability.

  • Audit: Facilitate periodic audits to assess compliance with data governance policies and identify areas for improvement.

4. Data Transformation:

  • Legacy & Cloud Transformation: Lead efforts to migrate legacy data systems to cloud-based platforms, ensuring scalability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

  • Ontology: Develop and maintain data ontologies to facilitate semantic understanding and interoperability across systems.

  • Data Platform Design Consultants: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and optimize data platforms that support business needs and objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field.

  • Minimum of seven (7) years proven experience in data engineering, data management, or related roles.

  • Strong understanding of data governance principles, practices, and technologies.

  • Proficiency in data modeling, metadata management, and data transformation techniques.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.

  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and data governance tools (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, Alation) is a plus.

  • Certification in relevant areas such as data governance, data management, or cloud computing is desirable.

Estimated Base Salary Range: $136,900- $160,000 USD/annually.

The base pay range shown is a guideline and reasonable estimate for this role. It takes into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions. Actual compensation offered may vary from the posted range based upon geographic location, work experience, skill level, certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Non- sales roles may be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive plan. Sales roles may be eligible to participate in a sales incentive plan.

Additionally, this position may be eligible for certain benefits, such as health insurance, life insurance, disability retirement plans, paid time off.

The posting will be active for a minimum of 3 days. The active posting will continue to extend by 3 days until the position is filled.
