Senior Electrical Engineer

Job Summary

Iron Mountain is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to lead electrical engineering across our regional and global Data Center Design and Construction teams. In this role, you will serve as the senior technical reviewer for complex, high-risk electrical systems, assuring technical quality, resolving discipline risks, and establishing scalable engineering standards. Functioning as a high-impact individual contributor, you will operate with broad autonomy to solve major technical challenges and raise global discipline capability through technical leadership and mentorship.

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

In this role, you will:

  • Lead Complex Electrical Engineering: Guide electrical strategy, design criteria, assurance plans, and review gates for major data center builds, campus phases, customer deployments, and operational upgrades from early concept through commissioning.
  • Govern Technical Reviews & Standards: Review and participate in consultant designs, calculations, specifications, and submittals; develop and maintain global standard designs, Basis of Design (BOD) documents, and govern discipline deviations within delegated authority.
  • Analyze Power & Utility Systems: Lead technical evaluations for utility interconnections, HV/MV/LV distribution, standby generation, UPS systems, battery energy storage, grounding/earthing, and power-quality performance.
  • Drive Equipment & Operational Reliability: Partner with Supply Chain to establish product strategies and technical evaluations for Owner Furnished Contractor Installed (OFCI) equipment, while leading root-cause failure investigations for major operational incidents to feed lessons learned into global standards.
  • Partner Cross-Functionally & Mentor: Collaborate across Design Management, Construction, Commissioning, Operations, and Solutions Engineering to resolve multidisciplinary interfaces while mentoring and peer-reviewing less experienced engineers.

What You’ll Bring (Skills & Qualifications)

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Core Experience: Typically 10+ years of relevant experience, with substantial technical accountability for complex data center, mission-critical, or major technical capital programs.
  • Deep Domain Expertise: In-depth knowledge of critical power systems, power-system studies, protective relay coordination, codes/standards, utility interconnections, and commissioning requirements.
  • Commercial & Technical Judgement: Proven ability to balance power architecture, electrical resilience, capital costs, efficiency, utility constraints, and schedule risks.
  • Influence & Communication: Credible negotiation and communication skills to influence consultants, equipment manufacturers, and cross-functional leadership without formal line-management authority.
  • Education & Travel: University degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or related field (Professional Engineer/Chartered Engineer license preferred) and ability to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally.

What We Offer (Benefits)

  • Compensation: Competitive salary and total rewards packages aligned with your experience level.
  • Work-Life Balance: Generous paid time off, holiday schedules, and flexible work options to support personal well-being.
  • Health & Well-being: Comprehensive health, dental, vision, wellness, and retirement plans.
  • Growth: Continuous learning, technical leadership opportunities, and career advancement across a global organization.
