Job Description:

The Senior Full-Stack Web Developer will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and maintaining Berklee's digital platforms, including the main website (www.berklee.edu) and associated subdomains. This position combines advanced technical expertise with strategic thinking to create scalable and innovative web and mobile solutions that enhance the user experience and align with Berklee's strategic objectives. Working closely with the Principal Software Engineer, this role will also contribute to system architecture, mentor team members, and ensure technical excellence across projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain, develop, modernize and enhance legacy code in Ruby/Ruby on Rails, PHP (with emphasis on Drupal), and React. 

  • Provide technical documentation and contribute to the development process lifecycle, including testing and release.

  • Collaborate on system architecture design and UI/UX to support a robust and reliable digital ecosystem that reflects and aligns with organizational goals.

  • Translate design specifications into functional websites and applications that perform seamlessly across devices and browsers.

  • Lead code reviews and establish development standards to ensure quality and maintainability.

  • Provide mentorship, documentation and guidance to foster a culture of professional growth and collaboration.

  • Stay current with emerging technologies and recommend adoption to maintain Berklee's competitive edge.
     

Required Skills and Experience
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in full-stack web development and software engineering.

  • Expertise in Ruby programming language and the Ruby on Rails framework.

  • Expertise in PHP programming language, with a focus on Drupal CMS and some Wordpress CMS, and other third-party web providers.

  • Strong understanding of front-end technologies, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript frameworks like jQuery or React.

  • Experience with server management, hosting environments (Docker), and database systems (e.g., MySQL, Heroku).

  • Knowledge of API development, integration, and Agile software development methodologies.

  • Excellent written and communication skills for PRs, documentation, and a proven ability to collaborate in diverse teams.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience preferred.
     

Preferred Skills
  • Strong understanding of user experience (UX) design principles and the ability to incorporate them into development decisions to ensure optimal user-centered design outcomes.

  • Strong understanding of information architecture principles, with the ability to design and maintain intuitive and user-friendly navigation structures that enhance the usability and accessibility of Berklee’s websites.

  • Background in mentoring and/or technical leadership.
