Candidates may work at any of our NE Ohio locations based on business needs. These include, but are not limited to, Main Campus, Fairview Hospital, Hillcrest Hospital, Independence or Akron General.

As a Clinical Senior Internal Auditor, you will conduct audit procedures for assigned audits, including evaluating the effectiveness of internal controls across Cleveland Clinic, its subsidiaries, and affiliates. This role leverages both clinical expertise and auditing skills to ensure that clinical documentation, care processes, and regulatory practices consistently meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance. By delivering objective audits, thorough analysis, and constructive feedback, the Senior Internal Auditor strengthens patient centered care, supports operational and financial integrity, and identifies opportunities for continuous improvement, ultimately contributing to safer, more effective care for every patient we serve.

A caregiver in this role works a hybrid schedule from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

The role is onsite two days per week at the Independence West Creek Office on Wednesday and Thursday, with remote work on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday.

There may also be occasions when the candidate will need to work or travel to a Cleveland Clinic facility to conduct an onsite clinical audit.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Under the supervision of department Managers, Director, or Chief Integrity Officer, conduct assignments relating to internal audits, including internal control effectiveness testing.

  • Review and report on the effectiveness of existing controls intended to ensure the safeguarding of assets and reduce or eliminate loss/breach.

  • Assure appropriate completion of assignments.

  • Track time and organize electronic audit papers using department software.

  • Plan and conduct audit tests and procedures designed to evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of controls for ensuring, including the safeguarding of Cleveland Clinic assets.

  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures and external laws and regulations; accomplishment of the Cleveland Clinic's goals and objectives; the reliability of reports; the economic and efficient use of resources; and the deterrence and detection of fraud.

  • Collect and analyze data from diverse sources, utilizing computer-assisted auditing techniques.

  • Develop and document audit findings, including recommendations for improving controls and complying with regulatory requirements.

  • Provide or assist in providing training, coaching, and guidance to internal audit staff in conducting audits and other audit-related issues.

  • Participate in audit meetings, prepare written reports and effectively communicate audit findings and recommendations.

  • Review and document audit work papers assigned for accuracy, relevance, and significance.

  • Maintain current and proficient knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies and procedures.

  • Comply with the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Standards of Professional Practice of Internal Auditing and Code of Ethics.

  • Perform on-site visits to regional hospitals and main campus.

  • Collaborate with clinical teams to identify and mitigate clinical issues.

  • Work closely with revenue cycle teams on billing and documentation audits.

  • Support internal controls for patient safety and quality.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in accounting, information technology or related field of study

  • Four years of progressive professional and functionally relevant work experience

  • Comprehensive knowledge of accounting/operations/information technology principles and practices, auditing standards, analytical techniques and internal controls

  • Problem solving, written and verbal communication skills and effective interpersonal skills at all levels of the organization

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Advanced degree

  • RN with a Clinical background

  • Healthcare auditing experience

  • Certifications such as RHIT, CPC, or CPA

  • Experience in clinical operations, revenue cycle, or compliance auditing

  • RHIT, CPC, or other auditing/coding certifications

  • Strong understanding of care standards and documentation practices

  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion

  • Experience with technology, audit and documentation systems

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires walking to various locations on campus as well as travel to off-campus sites.

  • Requires dexterity sufficient to operate a PC computer in the course of work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
