Senior Manager, Internal Communications 

Location: Chicago, IL or Bethesda, MD 

 

Summary: 
GEICO is looking for a skilled communicator to join our Corporate Communications team. Are you an expert in distilling complex information into clear, relatable language for all employees? Do you approach projects considering the best way to keep it accurate, human, and engaging at the same time? And are you experienced in managing a team to do the same? If yes, this Senior Manager role is one where you can lead, thrive, and grow. 

 

In this high-impact, high-visibility role, you will develop and execute strategic internal communications to engage, inform, and inspire GEICO associates. This role  which reports to the Director of Associate Communications  will manage two direct reports whose responsibility is supporting our People Group/Human Resources organization.  

 

The best person for this job collaborates well, can effectively lead a team, think strategically, and execute on a tactical level. Exceptional writing skills, a deep understanding of internal communications, attention to detail, strong team leadership skills, and experience working directly with senior leaders are vital to your success. Importantly, you will have a close, engaged relationship with Corporate Comms leadership, whose (literal and figurative) doors are always open for counsel and strategic planning – this is a team priority. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Create targeted messaging and campaigns to address new programs or processes, policies, change management, and engage associates at all levels within the People Group  

  • Engage regularly with People Group stakeholders to understand their key priorities and develop strategic communications plans and tactics to bring their initiatives to life for GEICO employees (key areas will include Benefits, Compensation, Learning & Development, and more) 

  • Employ both proactive and reactive strategic thinking and decision-making 

  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of internal communications  

  • Are our people “getting it?” Continuously measure, evaluate, and modify plans and tactics to improve impact and effectiveness. 

  • Embrace our supportive team. Mentor and inspire team members including setting goals, providing development and leadership, and tracking success metrics. 

 

Qualifications: 

  • 8-10 years of relevant corporate communications experience  

  • Strong internal communications experience and writing skills with the ability to understand and communicate difficult concepts  

  • Exceptional communicator: able to present ideas verbally, in writing, formally and informally 

  • Desire and ability to focus more on humanity, less on corporate speak 

  • Adept at influencing business partners and driving adoption of new comms initiatives 

  • Experience working on Human Resources/People communications at a large company – it doesn’t need to be the bulk of your career, but experience is preferred  

  • Someone who knows how to guide high-performing teams and brings out the best in a person’s capabilities 

  • Experience working with senior-level leaders  those within HR is a plus  

  • Ability to work quickly and multitask in a deadline-driven environment while maintaining a high level of attention to detail 

  • Proficiency in using communication and collaboration platforms and analytics to drive effective communications 

  • Bachelor’s degree

Annual Salary

$104,550.00 - $172,200.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
