Job Summary:
The Software Engineering Manager - Salesforce CRM Platforms provides technical and people leadership for the design, development, testing, and deployment of enterprise Salesforce solutions supporting Salesforce CRM, Sales Cloud, and Marketing Cloud. This role is accountable for leading high-performing Salesforce engineering teams that deliver scalable, secure, and highly automated platform capabilities aligned with Cat Digital strategy.
The manager will drive modernization through configuration-first development, automated testing, and CI/CD-enabled continuous delivery, while reducing technical debt and increasing delivery velocity across Salesforce ecosystems.
What You Will Do:
  • Lead and manage one or more Salesforce engineering teams delivering capabilities across Salesforce CRM, Sales Cloud, and Marketing Cloud.
  • Own the end-to-end Salesforce SDLC, including requirements intake, solution design, development, automated testing, CI/CD, deployment, and post-release support.
  • Drive adoption of automated testing strategies (unit, integration, regression, and end-to-end testing) to reduce manual testing and improve release quality.
  • Establish and evolve CI/CD pipelines for Salesforce using modern DevOps practices and tools (e.g., Git-based workflows, automated validation, environment promotion).
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership across Salesforce technologies, including:
  • Apex, Lightning Web Components (LWC), Flows, and declarative configuration
  • Sales Cloud and Marketing Cloud integrations and data models
  • API-based integrations with enterprise platforms and data services
  • Ensure strong data management and SQL proficiency for reporting, analytics, integrations, and operational insights.
  • Partner with architecture, product, marketing, and analytics teams to align Salesforce solutions to business outcomes and customer experiences.
  • Manage hiring, coaching, performance management, and career development for Salesforce engineers and technical leads.
  • Enforce engineering best practices related to security, scalability, performance, and compliance within Salesforce environments.
  • Contribute to platform strategy, roadmap planning, and continuous improvement initiatives aligned with Cat Digital objectives.
  • Engage with vendors, partners, and internal stakeholders to evaluate tools, frameworks, and platform enhancements.
  • Employee is also responsible for performing other job duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time to time.

What You Will Have:
Salesforce Products & Services
  • Extensive knowledge of Salesforce platform capabilities, including core clouds (Sales, Service, Marketing), declarative tools, Apex, Lightning Web Components, and the broader Salesforce ecosystem.
  • Ability to apply Salesforce products and services appropriately across diverse business use cases while balancing configuration-first and custom development approaches.

Organizational & People Leadership
  • Expert knowledge of engineering leadership concepts with a proven ability to lead, coach, and develop Salesforce engineers.
  • Experience setting clear technical and delivery objectives, aligning teams to business outcomes, and fostering accountability, inclusion, and continuous improvement.

Salesforce Software Development
  • Expert knowledge of Salesforce development tools and practices, including Apex, LWC, SOQL, flows, and platform limits.
  • Ability to deliver scalable, secure Salesforce solutions that align with product requirements and enterprise architecture standards.

Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  • Extensive knowledge of Agile and DevOps-based SDLC practices as applied to Salesforce delivery.
  • Ability to lead teams through planning, build, test, and release of new or enhanced Salesforce capabilities using modern CI/CD pipelines.

Salesforce Integration Engineering
  • Extensive knowledge of Salesforce integration patterns and technologies (APIs, REST/SOAP, event-driven integration, middleware).
  • Ability to design, develop, and maintain reliable integrations between Salesforce and enterprise systems such as ERP, data platforms, and external services.

Salesforce Solution Design & Architecture
  • Extensive knowledge of Salesforce solution design, data modeling, and platform architecture.
  • Ability to translate business and market requirements into well-architected Salesforce solutions that are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with enterprise standards.

Quality Assurance & Testing
  • Extensive knowledge of Salesforce testing strategies, including unit tests, automated testing, and regression testing.
  • Ability to establish and enforce quality standards that ensure high-quality, reliable Salesforce releases.

Platform Governance & Technical Debt Management
  • Extensive knowledge of Salesforce platform governance, including environment strategy, release management, security, and architectural standards.
  • Proven ability to identify, prioritize, and reduce technical debt through standardization, simplification, and a configuration-first mindset while maintaining delivery velocity

Considerations For Top Candidates:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Extensive software engineering experience, including enterprise application development (10+ years).
  • Solid people leadership experience managing software engineering teams (typically 5+ years).
  • Strong Salesforce platform experience, including Salesforce CRM and Sales Cloud; exposure to Marketing Cloud strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience leading Salesforce engineering teams in enterprise-scale environments.
  • Proven experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks for Salesforce.
  • Strong SQL skills with experience supporting data analysis, reporting, integrations, or operational workflows.
  • Experience working in Agile delivery models (Scrum or similar).
  • Deep experience with:
    • Salesforce DevOps and release automation tools
    • Test automation frameworks and quality engineering practices
    • Configuration-first and low-code/no-code Salesforce development
  • Experience integrating Salesforce with data platforms, analytics, and marketing activation stacks.
  • Strong understanding of Salesforce security, role hierarchies, sharing models, and compliance considerations.
  • Demonstrated success modernizing legacy Salesforce implementations and reducing technical debt.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a globally distributed engineering organization.

Summary Pay Range:
$159,120.00 - $258,570.00
