The Opportunity

As Flock Safety continues to expand its footprint in the public safety sector, we are moving into product areas with increased network complexity and deeper integration into customer environments. This role is critical to defining scalable device network topologies and partnering with customer-facing teams to ensure successful product integration.

The Senior Device Network Engineer will be responsible for designing architectures that bridge Flock’s device portfolio with diverse customer networks, identifying common patterns, and troubleshooting complex networking constraints.

Responsibilities

  • Define and document standard device network topologies and edge-to-cloud connectivity models

  • Partner with customer-facing teams to address network constraints and establish deployment best practices

  • Design and maintain routing, firewall, and local network configurations on embedded devices

  • Lead incident triage and root-cause analysis for networking issues in deployed systems

  • Identify recurring failure modes and anti-patterns, and drive improvements to reliability and performance

The Skillset

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8+ years with embedded Linux networking, including routing, firewalling, DNS, and DHCP

  • Experience deploying devices into customer-managed networks with varying security and topology constraints

  • Hands-on experience defining, operating, and troubleshooting routing and firewall rules

  • Practical knowledge of VPNs and network segmentation, including VLANs

  • Experience designing or operating edge-to-cloud connectivity models, such as outbound tunnels, reverse proxies, or VPN-based access

  • Experience with automation or scripting for provisioning and diagnostics

  • Strong network troubleshooting and diagnostics skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing Layer 3 networking infrastructure, including ACLs and VLANs

  • Experience working with Android-based devices

  • Knowledge of wireless networking, including modern Wi-Fi standards

  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and container platforms

  • Background with real-time or streaming network protocols

  • Experience with modern VPN or mesh networking solutions

  • Experience supporting large fleets of remotely deployed devices

90 Days at Flock

We prescribe to 90 day plans and believe that good days lead to good weeks, which lead to good months. This serves as a preview of the 90 day plan you will receive if you were to be hired in this role at Flock Safety.

The First 30 Days

  • Build a working understanding of the company's device portfolio, including device roles across product lines.

  • Set up and validate the hardware, software, and access needed to operate within the company's device ecosystem.

  • Capture and document existing deployment models and network topologies across products.

The First 60 Days

  • Collaborate with internal teams to identify and address recurring customer network integration challenges and deployment constraints.

  • Develop and document standard configurations for networking hardware and routing behavior.

  • Participate in incident response and root-cause analysis for networking issues affecting deployed products.

  • Maintain and expand a comprehensive understanding of the company's product portfolio and technical systems.

90 Days & Beyond

  • Support the launch of new products by ensuring reliable network integration for early access customers.

  • Define and promote best practices for customer network integration across device deployments.

  • Analyze device use cases to identify networking anti-patterns and recommend design improvements.

Salary & Equity

In this role, you’ll receive a starting salary between $170,000 - $220,000 as well as Flock Safety Stock Options. Base salary is determined by job-related experience, education/training, as well as market indicators. Your recruiter will discuss this in-depth with you during our first chat.
