Manage legal files, maintain case logs and calendars, assist in investigations, prepare discovery and simple legal documents, coordinate with departments and outside counsel, and support settlement/mediation processes.
POSITION OVERVIEW
This position manages the legal files, assists with legal preparation and answers. Maintains database on legal and compliance issues. Assists Director with investigating cases and determining liability. Works with law firms on requests and production.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain Open/Close lawsuit files, including estimated costs and paid costs.
- Works up case narrative for support of settlements, mediation and disputes
- Assist with investigating case merits
- Assist with preparing and gathering discovery for cases
- Draft and prepare simple legal documents for small cases
- Prepare simple legal answers on Small Claims cases
- Work with multiple departments to request documents for preparation of discovery and defense
- Answer insurance adjuster’s questions on lawsuit cases
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND PERFORMANCE MEASURES
- Maintain Legal calendar and that we don’t miss any court deadlines
- Maintain the case logs and update legal files
- Assist with locating legal counsel for new cases
- Maintain legal files are complete and up to date.

Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Paralegal designation required
- Experience negotiating and working with government investigators
- Strong Analytical Skills and Business Acumen
- Strong Organizational Skills with a Problem-Solving ability
- Strong Customer Service Skills
- Excellent presentation skills
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Understanding of legal terminology and processes
ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- This position requires minimal travel to visit markets for investigative reasons.
