The Senior Project Manager leads medium to complex projects, ensuring technical and financial success while managing risks, client satisfaction, and project execution strategies.
Job Overview:
The Senior Project Manager is responsible for foreseeing project opportunities and issues and adjusting strategies to embrace or mitigate them. They directly influence and negotiate with clients and suppliers regularly. The Senior Project Manager has bottom-line accountability for the financial and technical success of the project or area of project responsibility. They are responsible for the pursuit, capture, and management of all phases of medium and/or complex projects. They are accountable for the financial and technical success of the project, and they lead Project and/or Discipline Managers to achieve project objectives.
ResponsibilitiesKey Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Manage Lump Sum Turnkey EPC or EPFI (Engineer Procure Construct, or Engineer Procure Fabricate and Install) Projects in the range of $100m to $500m (typical)
- EPFC Phase- Responsible for all matters pertaining to the project and project execution in accordance with the contract and the project’s HSE, project security, quality, schedule, and financial goals
- Accountable to McDermott management and the client for McDermott team performance
- Maintain the authority to direct the Project Team within the bounds of McDermott policy and engage Senior Management for resolution of project issues and conflicts
- May be assigned during the Precontract phase to manage the preparation of the Proposal in coordination with the Commercial team
- During the Proposal phase, responsible for oversight of the Estimate preparation, associated support documentation, preparation of Bid and Project execution strategy, and will lead the Risk and Opportunity management program, among other activities
- Act as McDermott’s principal representative, responsible for all matters pertaining to the FEED execution effort in accordance with the contract and the project’s HSE, quality, schedule, and financial goals
- Hold accountability for the development of FEED Win-it strategy
- The FEED Project Manager is McDermott’s principal representative who is responsible for all matters pertaining to the FEED execution effort in accordance with the contract and the project’s HSE, quality, schedule, and financial goals
- Maintain accountability for the development of FEED Win-it strategy
- Hold accountability to McDermott management and the client for McDermott’s team performance
- Maintain authority to direct the FEED team within the bounds of McDermott policy and have access to Senior Management for the resolution of project issues and conflicts
- May manage a discrete portion of a larger project
- Manage and execute all phases of the project
- Provide strategic Leadership of the Project (or pursuit)
- Represent the company in front of the Client and is responsible for client satisfaction
- Has bottom-line responsibility for all aspects of the performance of the project (technical, schedule, costs, quality, and safety)
- Ensure projects comply with BMS policies and legal requirements
- Deliver the project at as-sold GP (or better) and responsible for accurate forecasting
- Manage project risks and opportunities
- Establish a high-performance safety culture
- May be assigned to lead a bid team, execute capture strategy, and lead technical & commercial bid efforts in conjunction with the Proposal & Estimating department
- Manage all phases of a project or a discrete portion of a larger project
- Deliver the Project by the approved budget and baseline schedule
- Ensure the Project activities adhere to the requirements of the Quality Management System Ensuring the Project activities adhere to the requirements of the HSE Management System
- Develop, approve, and implement the Project Execution Plan
- Oversee the planning and resource allocation of personnel throughout the project
- Define role, responsibilities, and authorities for reported
- Effectively delegates authority and responsibility
- Ensure that the Main Contract and Subcontracts are correctly administered, including an agreement to the variations in the scope of work
- Establish & maintain relationships with the Client & Subcontractors
- Drive the resolution of issues or conflicts between departments or with the Client
- Monitor and manage the project risk profile with the assistance of relevant departments
- Ensure compliance with the contract in all aspects
- Prepare and issue reports to the Client by contract requirements
- Liaise with the Client and key subcontractors as required
- Arrange and attend meetings with the Client and subcontractors as required
- Ensure that all written documentation required under the contract is prepared and submitted on time and by contract requirements
- Ensure that all QA and HSE policies and practices are properly administered and executed
- Meet all personnel training requirements
- Properly administer the contract, especially the protection of our contractual rights, and maximization of the opportunities, including negotiation of variations to the scope of work
- Oversee the management of change
- Ensure robust decision-making process is utilized and recorded
- Oversee contingency planning and lessons learned for the Engineering, Fabrication, Construction, and Installation scope
- Properly perform closeout activities, and submit documents as required by the contract and Closeout Procedure
- Own and lead the implementation, enforcement, and verification of compliance with all McDermott policies and procedures
- Ensure employees understand their responsibility and authority to effectively implement the requirements of all McDermott policies and procedures
- Ensure the timely completion of all mandatory training by themselves and their teams
Essential Qualifications and Education:
- EPC PM: 15+ years relevant industry experience (Min. 8 years as a PM); FEED PM: 10+ years relevant industry experience (Min. 5 years as a FEED PM)
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in a relevant Engineering discipline (Civil, Mechanical, Ocean, Naval, Architecture, etc.) or Construction Management
- Post Graduate Management qualification an advantage
- Ability to develop Project’s Execution strategy, Profit Plan, and objectives to ensure efficient and effective implementation, aligned with McDermott Policies, overall business strategy, and objectives
- Technical competency in the subject matter of the Project to be able to manage the implications of technical challenges and selection of key project team members
- Effective and efficient communication skills
- Capacity to maintain a working knowledge of the project as part of overall Project accountability and ensure implementation of required corrective actions
- Data analytics-focused in support of tracking and trending of Project Performance
- Ability to assist Project Directors in problem-solving and conflict resolution
- Ability to provide recommendations to the Operations group in the development of policies and procedures as part of the continuous improvement process
- Ability to understand and be able to communicate the link between the Project and corporate needs
- Champion implementation and adherence to McDermott’s Processes, Procedures, and tools on the Project
- Ability to strategies and foresee potential issues
- Knowledgeable/insight into work planning, schedule, cost controls, risk management, progress measurement, and forecasting to drive the Project and its financial performance
- Digital transformation focused - Demand organization’s support with digital solutions on the project as part of innovation, and continuous improvement processes
- Understanding of EPC contracts and contracting strategies with the ability to communicate contract requirements to the Project Team
- Ability to empower and empathize with team members
