About the Role

Join the International Centre for Point-of-Care Testing (ICPOCT), a globally recognised leader in point-of-care testing research, education and service delivery. As the Senior Scientific Officer, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery and ongoing development of the Northern Territory Point-of-Care Testing Program, working closely with health services, research partners and multidisciplinary teams. This position combines scientific leadership, project coordination, staff supervision and research activities to improve access to quality healthcare, particularly in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and rural and remote settings. The position also includes potential travel requirements, including visits to rural and remote communities and healthcare services across the Northern Territory, to support program implementation, stakeholder engagement and training activities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the delivery of point-of-care testing programs, including training, quality management, competency assessments and technical support for health professionals across participating sites via email and a telephone support line (M-F 9am-5pm).

  • Coordinating program activities and logistics, including stakeholder engagement, device deployment, service improvement initiatives and committee participation to ensure successful program outcomes.

  • Contributing to research activities through data analysis, reporting, publications and the evaluation of clinical, operational and cost-benefit outcomes.

  • Provide leadership and day-to-day supervision of scientific and administrative staff, supporting performance, development and operational excellence across the program.

About You

You are an experienced health science professional with a strong background in pathology and point-of-care testing, coupled with a passion for improving health outcomes in diverse and remote communities. You bring a collaborative leadership style, excellent communication skills and the ability to manage complex projects while maintaining high standards of quality, compliance and service delivery. Your scientific expertise, cultural awareness and commitment to continuous improvement will enable you to make a meaningful contribution to both program delivery and research outcomes.

You will have:

  • A degree in a relevant Health Science discipline, with significant experience in pathology testing, quality assurance and/or point-of-care testing delivery and research.

  • Well-developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience delivering training, working across diverse cultural settings and supporting quality and accreditation frameworks.

  • Demonstrated experience managing time and competing priorities, with the ability to work autonomously, exercise sound judgement and achieve outcomes against agreed timelines and objectives.

  • Proven leadership capabilities, including the ability to guide, support and develop staff while fostering a positive and collaborative team environment.
